Still no place to add a barcode in QBO?
Hello, @JulieHeath.
We currently don't receive updates for this feature yet for QuickBooks Online (QBO). I know how seamless it would be to have the barcode scanning feature for inventory in QBO. Rest assured our engineers are continuing to develop QuickBooks and deliver the best experiences for all QuickBooks users. To stay current with the latest updates, feel free to visit our blog.
If you wish to, you can subscribe to our QuickBooks Desktop version to use barcodes in the Advanced Inventory. For additional references, check out the details from this link: Set up and use barcode scanning in QuickBooks Desktop.
Or, you can look for a third-party application from the app store.
As always, feel free to read the topics from our QuickBooks help articles in case you need guides while working with QuickBooks in the future.

Consider a 3rd app to do so.
i agree, this and shelve (bin) allocations will be the 2 main reasons i will look for a different online service provider. i have requested these features several times for 2 years and just get the same generic ansewrs from QBO
i totally agree, this and shaelve (bin) allocation features are the reason i will be looking at changing to another provider.
I have requested these features several times over last 2 years but just get the same generic answer from QBO like they do not even read oyr requests.
They6 however do not have a problem taking our money every month. AND now expect us to use 3rd party apps which cost more money!!!!@!
Hi there, Gavcha.
I can see how would it cost to use 3rd party apps for barcode scanning to integrate with QuickBook Online for your business. And, I also appreciate you for providing a screenshot of the issue so I can share some details.
Base on the screenshot you've sent, it shows you're using the International version of QuickBooks. This is the reason there are no apps available under the Apps menu. This is because the feature is not yet working in the international version of QBO even it has been added to the left panel. And, we can't give a specific time frame as to when will be this feature will be work and use.
I also recommend visiting our QuickBooks Blog. This way, you'll be guided with updates and newly released features in QuickBooks.
Stay in touch if you have any other concerns or questions. I’ll get back to answer them for you. Have a good one.
You may find the bin location feature in a warehouse management app.
Has anyone gotten QBO to work with any barcode scanner? Does the workaround listed in this tread work? I would really like to get my inventory SKU's inputted so i can stop typing product info and price on my invoices. Thanks rick
Hello @rdoersch,
As of the moment, there isn't an integrated way to utilize a barcode scanner for invoices in QuickBooks Online. In the meantime, let's consider integrating one of our third-party apps to accomplish your task in Question. Let me show you how.
However, I'd also recommend letting our product developers know about your request. Suggestions from users and customers, like you, help us improve our product to provide the best service. To do so:
Additionally, I've also included this reference for a compilation of articles you can use while working with us: Sales and Customers for QuickBooks Online.
If you have any other questions, please let me know in the comments below. I'll be here to lend a hand.
You may need an additional app to do so.
It is disappointing to see a lack of progress on this and other issues relating to QBO. You would almost think QBO is Intuits red-headed step-child :(
It blows my mind how QBO (which I think is a great product in itself) is pushed as a great and necessary tool for small business, yet simple things like barcoding is not available and that we must rely on third party apps to operate even for something as simple as payroll?!. What burns me is the lack of urgency to implement something your paying customers are requesting/or known issues resolution, yet when I had an incident where transferring funds to our account was delayed (my error, forgot to move money for my QBO payment) the very next day my account was locked until rectified albeit being a regular paying customer for years. Intuit moved on that so fast all you could see was dust!
Ranting aside, being a small company and relying on QBO for all things necessary to run a contracting business where all of our work is generated in the field, it is necessary for us to be able to barcode inventory in our work trailer to save the already endless work hours and streamline our operation...it is pretty sad when our wholesalers can offer barcoding (which unfortunately would lock us to one wholesaler, unless you really want ten different barcodes from ten different wholesalers on your bins). It would make more sense for my company to barcode my inventory on a given item and transfer that to a PO to choose whom we want to purchase that given item from at any given time, plus it would give us the ability to bill our customer's items used more easily.

Hi, QuickBooks I tried to search for barcode in the app as you suggested and it says there are no app is there any suggestion app I can use for scanning barcode?
Hi, @Stellar12.
You can search for multiple applications that support barcode scanning through QuickBooks Online (QBO) or the apps store. I'm here to help you how.
If you're uncertain of what application to use or integrate with QuickBooks, you may ask assistance from your accountant. They are the ones who can assist you with the proper way of tracking your accounts or inventories accordingly. They can also guide you with picking the applications that fit your business needs and keep your books intact and accurate.
For more tips about managing inventories in QBO, you can check out the topics from this link: Manage your inventory, products, and services in QuickBooks.
If you have any other follow-up questions about inventory or barcode scanning, please let me know by adding a comment below. I'm more than happy to help. Have a good one!
...
Thank you I’ll check it out may I know if we can connect it with QuickBooks online ?
I appreciate the screenshot you've shared, @Stellar12.
Since you can't find any apps by searching a keyword, let's utilize the Browse category option to show some third-party application that supports barcode scanning in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Here's how:
If you can't still find any apps using the Browse category option, let's try logging in to your QBO account using a private browser. There are times that the browser stores frequently accessed data, thus causing QBO to act weirdly. Press this shortcut key on your keyboard to open a private browser:
If this works, it means that you need to clear the browser's cache so the system can start fresh. If you get the same result while using a private browser, I recommend switching to a different one.
As always, you can visit our QuickBooks Community help website if you need tips and related articles in the future.
Our doors are always open to help you again if you have follow-up questions about integrating third-party applications in QBO. Have a good one.
Did you click the link I mentioned? It is part of their family now.
@Fiat Lux - ASIA yes I did but I want it to auto sync to QuickBooks online
The app supports barcodes & barcode scanning within the web & mobile applications and it will sync data with your QBO account. You simply need to generate your barcodes and input them into the app against your SKUs. It requires Barcode numbers to have at least 6 digits or more, otherwise, they are not guaranteed to work. Then, every time you have to create a sales order/purchase order you can scan the barcode of the product to retrieve the product from the app instead of manually typing out the SKU.
Different ways you can use Barcodes:
Scan items onto Sales & Purchase Orders
Pack Sales Orders
New Stock Transfers
Search Products by Barcode
Barcode Printing
Perform a Stocktake
I don't want to pay for some overpriced add in app that doesn't work well and give me functions I don't need. I don't need inventory management. I just need to scan my sales items for an invoice. If you search this forum people have asked for this function for years and always the same BS reply "not yet supported in the online version". Makes you want to look for some other software that can do the things that it's users need.

We have bee exploring many web based accounting app and found the barcode feature was not available on the basic plan. You still need to purchase an additional module or a 3rd party inventory management app.
Because most businesses are using QuickBooks desktop. Online is not as good or robust and the cost is ridiculous.
