TL;DR: I need to filter a report by customer/project that shows any expenses paid but not checked as "billable".
I am running a report for a customer/project and I've determined that I have expenses that were paid and tagged to the customer/project and the option to check the "billable" option was missed.
I have run transaction reports, P&Ls, balance sheets, etc. and cannot find a way to filter to expenses that did not get categorized as "billable" for a specific customer/project.
Note: this is not found in the default "Unbilled charges" report.

I understand the importance of accurately tracking billable expenses, NoVA123. Rest assured, I'm here to assist you in finding a solution.
There is a report in QuickBooks Online that can help you identify expenses that were paid but not categorized as billable for a specific project. By customizing the Transaction List with Splits, we can refine it to display data that match your criteria. Let me guide you through the process:
If a transaction is billable, it will be indicated as Yes in the Billable column. Otherwise, the field will remain blank. You can click the amount to open the entry and edit it accordingly.
Additionally, I've compiled a selection of articles that will provide you with valuable insights on maximizing QBO's reporting capabilities:

Is it possible to run this report in Quickbooks Desktop Enterprise? I need to make sure I have checked off the billable box for all expenses. I cannot find a report like this in the desktop version.

Unfortunately the Billing Status does not produce anything on the report. I did already try that (and I tried again following the steps you recommened just in case I missed a miracle step previously). In my researched the Billing Status "unbilled" pulls up any expenses you have marked as billable, but not yet billed to the customer. There is no filter to show expenses not marked billable. I've tried many different options and it seems impossibe to produce a simple report showing if a box is checked or not. I even sat on the phone with Quickbook Support for 45 minutes. Extremely frustrated. Thank you for trying to help. This is not resolved.
This was pretty good but not perfect. I can't seem to filer by customer when I run this report. Please help.
Your browser requires some troubleshooting to overcome issues that prevent you from filtering the report by customers, KMBLRPC. I'll be pleased to share the detailed process to get you started.
In QuickBooks Online, the Transaction List with Splits report will only add a column for customers you've added to each item when creating vendor transactions. Hence, ensure to add them accordingly so they'll populate the report.
If your transactions are well set up, I recommend accessing your company using a private window. You're unable to filter the report by customers due to corrupted cache files, which causes unexpected behavior that interrupts your navigation experience.
To begin with, you can proceed to these keyboard shortcuts:
Once it works, clear the cache from your regular browser to refresh the website's preference. You can also use the different supported browsers for the best and most secure experience when running the software.
On the other hand, you might want to memorize your report to save its current customization settings. This can also be sent via email in a recurring schedule if necessary.

That didn't help at all.
I don't understand why that didn't help at all. I not only use QBO through Chrome but I also have the QBO app for desktop. It doesn't matter how many times I clear everything or log in using incognito or restart my computer for the 100th time, sorting by customer isn't an option. Is it possible to sort by customer? Did I go through all this for nothing?
It is not possible to directly sort the transaction list with splits by customer, KMBLRPC. I will share further details below.
You can add the customer column to the report. However, you cannot directly filter it to show billable expenses. Instead, you can filter by the associated vendor to display transactions related to your customers. Let me show you how:
For the time being, I suggest forwarding your feedback to our product development team regarding the option to sort transactions by customer in the Transaction List with Splits report. They can review it and may consider implementing it in the future. Here’s how:
I've also included this article for your reference to save your reports to Excel, which will provide more options for personalizing your company's data: Export your reports to Excel from QuickBooks Online.
We greatly value your feedback as it helps us enhance our program. Should you have any further questions regarding customizing your reports, please feel free to contact me. I'm here to assist you.
Please stop telling people to clear their browser as a "first thing", this sounds like some super old troubleshooting advice that doesn't appear to be the issue with most of us. I call on a payroll issue, clear the browser, payroll taxes in the wrong place, clear the browser, etc.
It is not fun signing back into everything after the browsers are all cleared!!!
