General Ledger in Modern View doesn't sort by account type

The General Ledger report no longer sorts by Account Type when in Modern View. Each column in the GL has a sort feature, but there isn't a column choice to add Account Type. So while I can sort by Distribution Account, it still doesn't fall into a logical pattern. We want the GL to be in the same order as the chart of accounts. Standard View defaults to the correct sort, so I've been running the GL from there. How can I get the Modern View back to the default?

General Ledger in Modern View doesn't sort by account type

The General Ledger (Modern View) report is sorted by Transaction date in ascending order by default, Swordbooks.

For unusual behavior of the General Ledger (Modern View), our Live Support Team is available to assist. They can help resolve the issue and ensure you can access your reports smoothly.

As a temporary workaround, you can click Switch to classic view to customize the account sorting as needed.

Please note that the Account Type column in the General Ledger (Modern View) is currently available only in QuickBooks Online Advanced and Accountant versions. You may consider upgrading to access this feature.

General Ledger in Modern View doesn't sort by account type

@JamesDuanT thank you for your reply. I'm struggling with why someone would want to have a General Ledger sorted by Transaction Date. If I run a full fiscal year GL in Modern View for a client, I have to run through dozens of printed pages to find the account I want to review because it's not sorted by Account Type.

You mention the Account Type column is available to add to the GL in Accountant Version and QBO Advanced, but it appears my access to this feature is downgraded to whatever this particular client uses. As an accountant I log into my QBO Accountant Version, but my client is on QBO Plus. Having the ability to create a General Ledger sorted by Account Type doesn't seem like a huge thing to have available across all platforms. Actually, it is an industry standard. I will continue to run the GL in classic view for now.
