Can you recategorize several transactions at once?

Hello, @janettx

At this time, there's not a way to categorize transactions when they're in the Unreviewed window in QuickBooks Desktop. I'm going to submit feedback to our Product Development Team about bring in this feature to allow this to happen. You can check what's new with QuickBooks by visiting our Blog.

If you have additional questions or concerns, don't hesitate and reach back out. Have a beautiful day.

Can you recategorize several transactions at once?

I'm late to the game here, but I figured out a workaround on my end. To be specific, I was trying to re-categorize 400+ transactions of "Job Supplies" to "Cost of Goods Sold".

When I batch selected, the "Categorize Selected" under "Batch Transactions" way greyed out. This was because I was also selecting deposits (refunds that had been applied to a select few of the previous purchases).

Once deselected, I was able to batch re-categorize.

I hope this helps someone else looking to solve this issue, it worked for me.

Cheers,

e.

Can you recategorize several transactions at once?

I see the ability to reclassify, but there is no option to edit the job/customer.  Am I not seeing something?

Can you recategorize several transactions at once?

Hi @mcctina,

I'll walk you through the process of modifying several transactions at once in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

From the Banking page of the Transactions tab, you need to tick the boxes of every transaction you want to modify at once. When ready, tap the Update button right above the list of transactions. You'll have the option to edit the PayeeCategoryClass, and Location all at once.

You can view the screenshot below for your reference:

See this article for more information on this process: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online. You have three options for each transaction in your For review tab. These three options are in the article, along with their respective steps.

The next step you can take is to reconcile your bank accounts to ensure they agree with the current balance of your actual bank account. Open this article for the steps: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know in the comments below if you have other concerns with bank transactions in QBO, and I'll take care of them for you.

This is not fixed. Trying to recategorize multiple transactions to a different account in QBO. When I click Categorize Selected, choose an account and hit Apply, nothing happens. Just one more problem in a long line of bugs and issues in QBO. Those "engineers" must be busy because it takes years to address problems and eventually the bugs just become part of the program. But I guess that is what you get when a program is built on the cheap and you have a company that only cares about profits.
