Allow me to provide you a few information about the checkbook register and I'm here to help you in any way, neal6.
At this time, changing the checkbook register's column width isn't possible. If you want to add some information to the columns, you can create a tracker as a workaround. To do this, you can run and customize the QuickReport of the specific account.
Here's how:
Then, export the report to Excel. From there, you'll be able to adjust the columns and add additional information if necessary. Next, save the file to Excel. You can consider this as your register tracker.
You can also customize the reports to show the specific data you need before exporting it to Excel. I got this article that will guide you through the steps: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.
I encourage you to visit our Help articles page. From there, you can read helpful articles that can guide you in your future task.

If you can't make the columns manually adjustable, you should at least make them a percentage-width of the screen like the Payee field. Right now, DATE, NUMBER, PAYMENT, DEPOSIT, and BALANCE are all fixed width. Our bank's online bill pay system generates an eight character check number which doesn't fit within the existing NUMBER column. And there's no 'hover tip' to reveal the entire string.
Hello, Jay.
I appreciate sharing your suggestion with us about the width of the columns in the bank register.
As what MariaSoledadG pointed out, the columns on the bank register has a fixed column width. In addition to their response, you can adjust the columns through the QuickReport workaround instead.
I'd also recommend sending this suggestion to our developers. They'll review this idea and might consider adding it in the future. Click the Help menu, hover on Send Feedback Online, then select Product Suggestion.

Fix this issue already!! Is your product still using code form the 90's? Because that's what it feels like. Data is obscured.
Graphics have changed but Intuit is still using settings as if everyone has an 800x600 monitor. The coding team should be embarrassed.
Until a couple of weeks ago I could always read balance amounts, now I can only read the first figure and a bunch of ———- instead of numbers. I am sure it’s just a matter of punching a button to correct the problem, just can not get the right button.
Hello @Ann78,
Before we can accomplish your goal for today, can I ask you a few questions about the balances you mentioned? Saying you're only able to read a bunch of first figures, are we looking at the specific register of an account? Or is the balances of your accounts listed in your chart of accounts?
A screenshot of how your screen looked would be very much appreciated. Keep me updated in the comments below. Hope to hear from you as soon as possible. Take care always!
This is so frustrating! I can either see the transaction date or balance but not both at the same time.
There must be some way to fix it.
WHY do you people NEVER answer the question ASKED!!!??? It wastes your time AND Ours!!
She asked about REGISTERS, not REPORTS.
There MUST be a way to do this because I just updated my Quickbooks account, and now the "Payee" column is so much wider than it should be. I need to see the entire register in one window and documents in another. Clicking back and forth is going to drive me crazy. PLEASE TELL ME I CAN CHANGE COLUMN WIDTHS IN THE CHECK REGISTER! AND HOW! IF WE CAN'T, that's STUPID
