How do I categorize an expense for professional development -- or a business education workshop?

Welcome to the Community, @diane46.

At this time, we don't have a specific category for professional development and education workshops. As a workaround, you can consider categorizing them as Other Business Expenses.

Here's how:

  1. In your QuickBooks Self-Employed account, click Transactions from the left menu.
  2. Click Add transaction.
  3. Enter the transaction detail and amount.
  4. In the Category column, click the Select a category link, then search for Other Business Expenses from the field.
  5. Click Save.

Here's an article you can read for more details: Manually add transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

However, I still recommend seeking help with your accountant so he/she can guide you on which category suits for this.

You can also read this article to know the list of categories in QuickBooks Self-Employed: Categories in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Keep in touch if you need further assistance with this, or if there's anything else I can do for you. I've got your back. Have a good day.

How do I categorize an expense for professional development -- or a business education workshop?

My accountant doesn’t like your category ‘Other Business Expense’. He wants me to show more detail. I wish you would offer more categories,

specifically - Professional Development/Education.
