I understand how this situation affects your business tasks, @StanPik. Let me provide another way to delete a customer's credit card information in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

When processing payments in QuickBooks, adding payment information to every customer's profile is necessary. This is why the option to delete credit card info from the Payments and Billing tab isn't possible. However, you can modify the card number to prevent system charges.

Here's how:

  1. Choose Sales in the left panel and click Customers.
  2. Select the customer name, then Edit.
  3. Go to the Payment and Billing tab.
  4. Choose the credit card number under the Preferred payment method field.
  5. On the Credit Card Information window, click Add.
  6. Change the following:
  • Credit card number: 4111-1111-1111-1111. This is a non-transacting test card number.
  • Expiration date: Any date in the future.

For more details, kindly visit: Delete your customer’s credit card number.

Furthermore, you can visit this article to learn how to receive and record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online: Record invoice payments.

How do I delete a Credit Card from a Customers profile? I found this on a google. In QuickBooks Payments, you can’t delete your customer’s credit card information. = NO!

This is a WORK-AROUND. AND It is not necessary that all customer profiles have a pay type that's incorrect. I'm requesting this be changed. I don't want to work around. I want to be able to turn off credit cards saving. From a PCI compliance point you should be happy that I don't want to save credit cards. I would like to be able to toggle this feature OFF, so I can prevent anyone from in my company from saving a credit card, it was done by mistake by an employee who thought they were helping me and they're actually created a bigger problem. Now once you save the credit card for a customer, they must always have a saved credit card? and I'd have to edit it every time they've got a new credit card. This is ridiculous. I want to be able to delete saved credit cards. Again for the price I'm paying for this product you need to correct this! Do not offer workarounds thank you very much!

Hi there, StanPik.

I understand why you're upset about adding payment information to the Customer's profile, and how important it is to turn off credit card saving on that page. I'll ensure you can send feedback so your suggestion is forwarded to the Product Development Team.

Beforehand, please note that after you've saved a customer's credit card information, you have to update it each time they receive a new one. This way, you can keep their payment information up to date.

Then, I recommend submitting feedback about having the ability to delete credit card info or turn off client payment details. This suggestion has been sent to our engineer for consideration in future updates.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Choose Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions. Then, select Next to submit feedback.

In case you need steps on how to organize your customers in QuickBooks to track their future transactions smoothly, you can read this article: Add and manage customers in QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to reply to the thread if you have further concerns about managing the customer's payment method or any related details. I'm always here to assist you further, StanPik. Take care!

For anyone looking, this no longer works. Entering the test credit card number results in an error "Did you enter your credit card info correctly?" and does not allow you to save with the test credit card number.

@IGM001 right. And not only is being able to delete a client's credit card a basic feature available on any amateur app, it's A LEGAL ISSUE when a client says they want their information removed and Quickbooks customers can't do so. Quickbooks knows this is a problem. The fact that they are uninterested in protecting customers legally should be all people need to know when considering jumping ship to another accounting software.

Some features are great and some are just very amateurish. They really need a few focus groups working with the dev teams to make sure the basics are covered. From a programming perspective this should be a really simple addition.
