How do I delete the complete vendor list? I imported the wrong list to a new QB online account.

New company owner wants invoices, customers and vendors moved to new online account. Not as easy as one would think to do. I moved the wrong vendor list and he wants them all removed not just "inactive" Can't seem to find a way to do this?

It's good to see you here, warrentonha-gmai. I can help share some information about deleting the complete vendor list in QuickBooks Online.

 

For now, we can only make a vendor inactive in QBO. You'll want to purge the account if the data is less that 60 days. The system deletes all data entered into the company, and you're unable to restore or reverse them.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Change the URL to include /purgecompany.
  3. Example: URL shows https://...qbo.intuit.com/app/homepage, change to: https://...qbo.intuit.com/app/purgecompany.
  4. The next screen will provide a summary of the items to be deleted.
  5. Type the word “YES” once the data gets deleted, then click OK.
  6. Click Wipe Data once your selections are complete.
  7. Once the deletion is complete, you will be rerouted to your home page.

If it's beyond 60 days older, you may need to cancel the account and start a new subscription.

 

To cancel the account:

 

  1. Go to the Settings icon and select Account and Settings.
  2. Select the Billing and subscription tab.
  3. In the QuickBooks section, select Cancel.
  4. Follow the steps to cancel your account. If you use payroll, you should cancel your payroll account too.

To start a new subscription:

 

  1. Go to https://quickbooks.intuit.com/choose-country/.
  2. Fill up the User ID and password.
  3. You can use the same user ID and a password you previously had. If you activated payroll in the account, this is the best option for you.

Intuit does not allow you to delete customers/vendors/accounts etc.  It is a severe limitation of QBO.  Sadly, they could easily allow deletes, but they don't.  I don't know why, and they won't comment.  I do know that Intuit does not listen to its customers, and no matter how much you ask for this, or any change, they will do only what they want.  These forums are filled with customers begging for simple, logical changes year-over-year that never get fulfilled.

 

Note: Quickbooks Online is vastly inferior to Quickbooks Desktop, yet costs much more $$.  Consider switching to the desktop version, or picking a competing online bookkeeping software that values feedback from their customers - you'll likely save money too.
