How do I edit the opening balance transactions? Initial opening balance amounts went into the incorrect account within the chart of accounts.

When I created my customer base I entered opening balances but did not put them in the correct Income Account. How do I edit those initial transactions? Do I need to delete them altogether? If so, how do I do that?

Thanks for visiting the Community today, Kristin A.

We’ll have to open the account and edit the opening balance from there. Then, delete the initial transactions recorded one at a time. I’ll be your guide today on how to perform these steps.

To change the opening balance:

  1. Go to the Accounting menu on the left panel to choose Chart of Accounts.
  2. From the list, find the account and go to the Action column to select View register.
  3. Look for the opening balance.
  4. Once found, click the amount to expand the line.
  5. Press the Edit button to update the amount.opening balance.1.pngopening bal.png
  6. Click Save to keep the changes.

Check out this article for more details: Edit an incorrect opening balance.

To delete the entries:

  1. Open the bank account you’re working on.
  2. From there, tap the transaction to expand the line.
  3. Hit the Delete button and then choose Yes to confirm the deletion.opening bal.1.png
  4. Continue performing the same process to remove the remaining transactions.

For future reference, the following resources provide an overview of when to void or delete transactions.   Also, you’ll find instructions on how to add the opening balance of an account.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance. I’m always ready to help and make sure you’re taken care of. Enjoy your day.
