Thank you for your first post, wiseearth. Let me provide some insights about journal entries.
You can select Add lines to insert more lines when recording journal entries in QuickBooks Online (QBO). To remove the extra fields, tap on Clear lines as well.
In your case, can you tell me more about inserting a single-line option for journal entries? This way, I'll be able to gather and share with you the right amount of information. You may also attach screenshots for visual reference.

RE: You can select Add lines to insert more lines when recording journal entries
Adding lines and inserting lines is two different things.
How can a user open an existing Journal and insert lines between existing lines?
Just click on the + sign in the left column of the Journal Entry to add or insert a line.
Or click on the trash bin on the far right column of the Journal Entry to delete a line.
The + sign is gone...I think that is what @wiseearthway-gma was getting at by saying "this feature seems to have disappeared"

Hello there, @bendcpa. I'll share some steps to help you see the plus (+) sign icon to insert line items in journal entries.
Thanks for clarifying what @wiseearthway-gma is talking about. To help us determine the cause of the disappearance of the icon, I recommend performing some browser troubleshooting steps. We can start by accessing your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account through an incognito mode. This does not store cache which has the potential to become corrupted and cause unexpected behavior.
Below are the shortcut keys you can use depending on your browser type:
Once logged in, create a journal entry and check if you now see the + sign icon. If this works, go back to your regular browser and clear the cache. If the same thing happens, you can use another supported browser or device as it could be that there's a temporary issue between the current one you're using with QBO.
You can always post again here on the Community if there's anything else you want to know about the journal entry feature. Have a good one, and stay safe.
Followed instructions. Opened QBO using Incognito. Still can't insert a line.
I can help you insert a line in a journal entry, rjlane.
In QuickBooks Online (QBO), you can click the Add Lines button to insert multiple lines in a journal entry. You can see it at the bottom of the form. Once you tap on it, a new blank line will appear where you can input your additional information. I've added a screenshot below for a visual reference:
If you're still unable to locate it, let's perform basic troubleshooting steps. You may have accumulated too much historical data. Whenever you visit a website, it saves some information from the web page in its cache. These files allow the websites you visit most often to load faster. Not to worry, clearing them will do the trick.
First, let's try accessing your account through an incognito window to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue. You can refer to these shortcut keys to open an incognito window in all supported browsers:
Once done, connect your bank again. If it works, switch back to your regular browser. Then, clear its cache. This way, you can access QuickBooks with a clean slate. You can also use a different supported one.
If the issue persists, I suggest contacting our Customer Support Team. This way, they can pull up your account securely and check the cause of the problem.
Here's how:
Additionally, you can check this article that you can utilize in reconciling your accounts so they always match your bank and credit card statements in QuickBooks: Reconcile an account.
