How do I record customer sales that come through Venmo? Do I need to create a sales receipt for each transaction?

Lots of customers prefer paying via venmo, so I have lots of transactions and transfers from venmo to my business checking account. How do I record these transactions as sales?

How do I record customer sales that come through Venmo? Do I need to create a sales receipt for each transaction?

Hi there, userthegroovyedit.

Yes, you can create a sales receipt for each transaction in QuickBooks Online to record the customer sales that come through Venmo. Then, deposit them directly into your business checking account.

Here's how:

  1. Click the + New icon.
  2. Choose Sales receipt.
  3. Select the customer from the Customer dropdown. Note: If you haven't set them up in QuickBooks yet, select Add a new customer.
  4. Enter the sales info, such as the payment method.
  5. Enter line items for the products and services you sold.
  6. Choose a business checking account in the Deposit to the drop-down list drop-down
  7. Hit Save and close.

Please refer to this article to see steps on how you can create a recurring sales receipt to automatically charge a customer at a given interval: Set up a recurring sales receipt.

How do I record customer sales that come through Venmo? Do I need to create a sales receipt for each transaction?

I need help please - I added Venmo as a "bank" so it imports my transactions for me. When I mark a transaction as a sale, it doesn't show up in sales the same way that PayPal sales do. Help!!

I set up Venmo as a "bank". When I categorize transactions as sales, they don't show up on the sales tab in my dashboard. Help! Paypal sales categorized transactions DO show up in the sales tab.

Hi there, @thesunshinejar.

Welcome to the Community. I'm here to share some information regarding the sales section in QuickBooks.

There are specific transactions that show on the sales tab. To determine the types, you can follow these steps:

  1. On the left navigation bar, click Sales.
  2. Go to the All Sales tab.
  3. Click the Filter drop-down.
  4. Below Type, press the drop-down arrow to view the list of transaction types.

If the PayPal app is adding your transactions as sales receipts, it will show on the Sales tab. Since you connected Venmo as a bank, it may be possible that the transaction type is Deposit when imported to QBO.

For additional reference, you can use the following article to learn how to add or match downloaded transactions in QuickBooks: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Please know that I'm just a post away if you have any other questions about your sales. Take care.

How do I record customer sales that come through Venmo? Do I need to create a sales receipt for each transaction?

I have a similar question. How do I categorize transfers of sales income from a client's Venmo balance to QBO? Venmo is set up as a cash account in this client's system. They don't want to link it. It's messy. They frequently transfer from their venmo balance into their checking accounts. I need to be able to identify the sales income differently than the deposited income.

Thank you for posting a response in this thread, VIVIDly.

We recognize that Venmo is a growing payment platform. However, you'll need to find a way to upload those entries or link Venmo into QuickBooks. This way, you can easily add, match, and categorize it inside QuickBooks Online (QBO).

You check if there's a option to automatically categorize the transfer of sales income from Venmo to QBO. I'd also suggest that you reach out to Venmo support to further assistance.

I've included this article to learn more about moving certain amounts from one bank account to another: Transfer funds between accounts.
