You can not, there is no unit of measure in QBO

Unless you were to put the unit of measure in the description field of each item

Sorry Old Man, but at least as of this Monday, QBO-Plus (QuickBooks Online-Plus) has INCLUDED as a "QuickBooks Field" when matching imported *.docx Invoice Templates, the NEW field "Unit Quantity Code/UQC (detail line)".  Perhaps at least SOMEONE at Intuit must have learned that for some countries, it is now LEGALLY MANDATED to include a "UQC" on every invoice detail line where items are sold by some sort of Unit or Quantity.  We ship Internationally, so welcome this development at Intuit--BUT are still awaiting instructions for how to get that "QuickBooks Field" (UQC)---(acknowledged by QuickBooks in its "Import form style" widget as a valid "QuickBooks Field") into our database for Non-Inventory Items, and onto Estimates and Invoices.  (When I last checked, this new field is still a "lame duck", with no matching fields in the Item List, nor does it appear on the Printouts---Preview or printed...YET!)

This is a codacil to my last reply.  I have since discovered that there is a YouTube video, published six weeks ago which explains "How to Enable Unique Quantity Code (UQC) in an Invoice in QuickBooks" [URL = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QR-2JwtGECg].  The author appears to be in India, speaking impeccable English, however.  His QuickBooks Online shows three (3) additional entry fields in the "Product/Service information" Edit Screen: "HSN Code", "Unit", and "Category"---appearing below the "SKU" field, and above the "Sales Information" field.  HOW DOES ONE ACCESS/ENABLE THOSE THREE FIELDS?---(Just the "Unit" field alone would be a salvation for our industry!) Thanks.  (Anyone not knowing the answer should just say "I would like to know the answer too!"...and not say "it ain't so"---because it IS SO). Thanks again!

I got that, user10809.

Currently, the Unit Quantity Code (UQC) for non-inventories isn't available in QuickBooks Online (QBO) Plus US version . You can provide us your feedback regarding this feature. Just go to the Gear icon then click Feedback

You can track feature requests through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi Catherine B.

I can see that that the UQC feature has been "hidden" on the invoice edit screen from "US" users.  I don't care what Intuit's damned logic may have been for this censoring of a working item from US-based users.  Intuit DOES show Plus users in the US the UQC item on our "Import Template Style Field" list---as you probably should know.  We have been listing Units for close to fifteen (15) years on our QuickBooks (Desktop)-produced invoices---as do all of our competitors.  After significant negotiation, and at no small expense, we have "upgraded" to QuickBooks Online.  Please convert our account to a "non-US" one if necessary, so that we can continue to show our 10,000-plus customers what they expect in our industry.  Shame on Intuit!

Hello there, user10809.

As your business grows, you can be sure QuickBooks will grow alongside it. Allow me to share some information on how you can maximize the use of the custom fields in the default sales forms in QuickBooks Online.

QuickBooks Online is designed to become a one-stop shop to fit your business needs. With that being said, you have the ability to customize your invoices and estimates when it comes to entering your product and service items.

When creating an invoice or estimate, you'll be routed to the standard format and default style of invoice in the system. If you're not comfortable using it, you're just a couple of clicks away from the customize link. Whether it's an inventory or non-inventory item, you can choose how this information will be displayed on the actual invoice.

You also have the option to change the name of the columns to match what you are currently using. Lastly, you can import or upload the design or template of the actual business invoice you're using.

All of these invoicing options are set to suit your business preferences. On the other hand, you may visit our Intuit Developers Forum where you directly interact with the developers, product experts and engineers to share your application requests and feedback.

Here's how:

  1. Visit: https://help.developer.intuit.com/s/.
  2. On the Intuit Developer page, go to the right-hand side.
  3. Under Platform Status, look for QuickBooks Online invoicing.

You can also stay tuned to our blog to see what’s in store: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/blog/whats-new.

With our goal to make QuickBooks as user friendly as possible for all the small business owners,  feel free to share with us if you have suggestions for improvement.

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Choose Feedback from the drop-down.
  3. Type in your Comments, Suggestions or Feedbacks.
  4. Choose Next.

Please don't hesitate to click the Reply button to below if you have follow-up questions about tracking the Unit Quantity Cost of your non-inventory items in QuickBooks Online. I'm always here to help.
