How does the "mark as paid" feature work for my vendor invoices? What will happen if I click on mark as paid?

Hi @agriffin,

Thank you for posting here in the Community. I can share some information about how the feature works for the vendor bills in QuickBooks Online.

The Mark as paid option works the same with Pay bills from the + New menu. It allows users to enter bill payments directly from the Expenses section.

When you click Mark as paid, the system will route you to the Bill Payment screen. Check out this screenshot for your visual guide:

I've also attached an article you can visit to determine when to enter payments for the vendor invoices in QuickBooks: Learn the difference between bills, checks, and expenses in QuickBooks Online.

Get back to me if you have any questions about entering vendor payments or marking bills as Paid. I'm always here to help. Take care always.

what if I just want to get rid of a bill from a prior period that was entered in error? If I mark the bill as paid does it force me to actually make a payment?

I just want to remove a bill that was entered in error in a prior period. Does marking it as paid force you to pay it?

Hello, cvligh95.

In QuickBooks, you have the option to void or delete the transaction you enter incorrectly to zero out the transaction.

Also, when you delete a transaction in QuickBooks, the transaction is completely erased from your books, and it won’t appear on any reports or in any accounts.

To learn more about the process, please see these articles:

Additionally, marking the transaction as paid, you'll have to settle the transaction in QuickBooks.

Let me know if you need more help while working in QuickBooks Online. I'd be glad to get back here and offer my assistance again. Take care!
