How to change Customer on an established Project?

I'm here to help you correct a Project for a Customer in QuickBooks Online, @rhudson.

Once a Project is assigned to a Customer, you can no longer change it.

As a workaround, you'll need to delete the Project and assign it to the right Customer. Here's how to delete a project in QuickBooks:

  1. Go to the Projects menu.
  2. Look for the project and click the ACTIONS drop-down list.
  3. Select Delete, then click Yes to confirm.

Before deleting the project, you can import your project reports to Excel or print them. This way, you can use its data when recreating the project.

Once done, you can now create another project and make sure to select the right customer. To record your payroll time activity, check out this article: Track hourly labor costs and profitability by project in QuickBooks Online.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please don't hesitate and reach back out to me! I'm always here to help you in any way that I can. Have a good one.

How to change Customer on an established Project?

Through the wrong project, I Clicked on the "Time Activity" for each entry and adding the hourly cost rate and changed the customer/project to the correct new project that I created.   But this did not move the taxes. How do I now move the tax amount from wrong project to new?

Let me help you transfer the tax amount from the old project to the new one, @rhudson.

I can see that you're trying to change the project name on your time activity to post it to your newly created project. However, this does not move all the information. You'll need to delete the created time activity from the wrong project and recreate it by associating the correct one. Here's how:

  1. Open the wrong project and go to the Time activity tab.
  2. Select and open the Time Activity transaction.
  3. At the middle bottom of the page, click Delete.
  4. Click Yes to confirm.

Once done, go to the newly created project. Then, click the Add to project drop-down and select Time. Enter the necessary information and click Save. After the steps, you'll be able to move the tax amount to your new project.

How to change Customer on an established Project?

I have already moved all Time activity to the new Corrected Project  The Correct Project is putting the Cost as Hourly time cost, not Payroll expense.    If it knew it was a payroll expense it should have the tax amount included.       I did a Journal entry to move the taxes, and that is showing as a Payroll expense.      My problem is when I look at the overview, I have to toggle between the "Hourly Cost"  & "Payroll Expense"  to find the entries.  Then do the math to show actual profit for the project.

How do I make both of these entries fall under the same category?
