How to change from sales income to consulting income on P&L

Greetings, @qb3.

Let me be the first to welcome you to the Community. It’s my pleasure to help change the sales income account to consulting income on your P&L report.

Are you trying to edit the account name from Sales income to Consulting income or change the posting income account of an item? I’m adding some steps on how to do both in QuickBooks Online.

You can edit the account name by going to the Chart of Accounts. Here's how:
1.    Go to the Gear icon and select Chart of Accounts.
2.    Look for Sales Income account from the list and select Edit on the Action drop-down.
3.    Edit the Name to Consulting Income.
4.    Hit Save and Close.

On the other hand, you need to change the posting income account of an item or service from the Products and Services screen. Here’s how:
1.    Go to the Gear icon and select Products and Services.
2.    Look for the item or service and select click Edit on the Action drop-down.
3.    Scroll down and look for Income account, then select Consulting income.
4.    Hit Save and close.

For more information, you may take a look at this article: How to change the account for the product/service item.

By performing the steps above, your P&L report should now show consulting income instead of sales income.

That should answer your question for today. Let me know how it goes. If you need anything else, leave a reply below. I'll be more than happy to help you out. Thanks for dropping by and take care!
