Hi Brant,

Thank you for posting here in the Community. I can share information about the QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sales discontinuation.

Intuit will no longer support QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale as of October 3, 2023. You'll no longer receive security patch updates, and we'll discontinue Payments and Connected Services like Financial Exchange.

Additionally, we've compiled answers to frequently asked questions about the discontinuation of QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale. For more information about the platform, as well as the alternative Shopify POS, check out this link: QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale discontinuation.

Feel free to comment below if you have additional questions about using financial exchange for QuickBooks Point of Sale. We're always here to help. Take care always.

With the financial exchange between POS 19 and Desktop Pro ending, how do I get a report that contains the information normally sent to Desktop via exchange?

I'll guide you accordingly, @Brant. There are two ways to perform a financial exchange in Quickbooks Desktop. These are through the end of the day or via manual process.

Financial Exchange is a procedure that involves sharing information between these two programs, typically performed either at any time or as part of your end-of-day routine.

As part of End of Day procedure:

  1. On the QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale Server Workstation, choose Point of Sale > End of Day Procedure.
  2. On the End of Day window, ensure the Exchange data with QuickBooks checkbox is selected.
  3. Choose other End of Day options, as desired.
  4. Select OK.

Here are the steps to Manual exchange:

  1. From the Financial menu,
  2. Choose Financial Center.
  3. Lastly, click the Update QuickBooks Now.

You can also check this page to see the list of files transferred during the exchange: Financial Exchange Overview.

Additionally, here's a source containing information about the discontinuation policy of QuickBooks Desktop POS: QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale discontinuation.

Please let me know if you have other concerns while handling your data. We are still here to assist you. Have a pleasant day.

After October 3 financial exchange will not work.

Because the financial exchange connective service is ending on October 3, 2023, I need a report with the POS info that would normally be sent to QB Desktop via financial exchange.
How can I get such a report so I can enter the info into QB Desktop without connective services?
Or is POS rendered totally useless after Oct 3, 2023?

Hello, @BrantWW. Thank you for the additional information about your report concern in QuickBooks Point of Sales. It's our pleasure to give you some insights about it.

Yes. The QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale will discontinued as of October 3, 2023. You can continue to use QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale 19.0 without these services after October 3, 2023. Discontinued products won’t receive the latest critical security patches and updates.

On the other hand, when performing financial exchange, data is transferred from Point of Sale to QuickBooks Desktop and vice versa. Please check the lists of information that transfer from Point of Sale to QuickBooks Desktop. See the lists below:

  • New customers and updated customer information (except for account limits and balances.
  • New vendors and updated vendor information
  • Sales information (receipts)
  • Receiving information (vouchers)
  • Inventory cost or quantity adjustments (as a summary adjustment Journal Entry)
  • New vendor payment terms

Additionally, getting a report that includes all this information is currently unavailable. You may go to the Reports tab, find the data listed above, and then manually export it to Excel.

You can check these articles for more details about Financial exchange in the program:

We'll always be around if you need more help managing reports and data in the program. We look forward to doing good business with you. Take care always!

I just upgraded to Quickbooks Plus Online but now it is my understanding that I have no way to run my point of sale data to this?  Am I understanding this correctly?

To ensure you get the most out of your subscription, I'll provide a detailed overview of how to effectively manage and sync your Point of Sale (POS) data with QuickBooks Online (QBO), Chill29. My priority is to streamline your business workflow.

To run POS data with your QBO Plus plan, I suggest looking for a third-party application that allows data integration between the two programs since direct syncing between them is currently unavailable. Here's how:

  1. In your QBO account, go to the Apps Menu.
  2. Tap the Find Apps tab.

  3. Use the search bar to look for an app that suits your needs.
