How to make custom journal report default for journal printing?

It’s great to see you in the Community, tsasme.

The Customize feature can help sort the information you want to display on the report. Let’s use this tool to make a custom journal report.

Here’s how:

  1. Choose the Reports menu on the left panel and enter Journal in the Search field.
  2. Hit the Report period drop-down to set the correct date.
  3. Tap the Customize menu in the upper right hand to open the Customize report window.

  4. From there, select which section you want to modify (Filter, General, Rows/Columns, Header/Footer).

  5. After sorting the data, click Run Report to apply the changes.
  6. Next, press the Save customization button to memorize the report and follow the instructions to complete the process.

If you want to print it, simply go to the Custom Reports section and then click on it to view the complete information.

How to make custom journal report default for journal printing?

Thank you for the warm greetings…

I believe my message was not clear enough earlier. Here it goes:

It is a legal requirement in my jurisdiction of operations to have all entries printed out. At the bottom of any entry page (despite the nature) there is “More” in which I found “Transaction Journal”. I clicked it and customized it as per the requirements here, but it always gets back to the default prior my customization. How can I make my customization of that specific report a default whenever I print out a transaction journal?

In the desktop version, it was very easy to put that together.

Appreciate the help

I understand now what you're trying to achieve, tsasme.

When you pull up and customize the Transaction Journal of a specific transaction, you want this customization to be default when pulling up other transactions.Transaction Journal is just a quick report overview for that specific transaction only. Hence, saving the customization won't be possible since the system will always go back to its default setup.

The workaround provided by Rasa-LilaM might work. This'll allow you to save the changes on the report. She also provided the links about customizing and memorizing the reports.

We'll take your idea as feedback and will share it to our Product Development Team. They'll evaluate and put it into consideration for product updates. You might also visit the QuickBooks Blog to see new features added in the program.

@tsasme

Once you've customized the Journal report as you want, just curious did you click the "Save Customization" button? If you've done that, it becomes your own Custom report,  similar to the desktop version. When you need to run the report, select the "Custom reports" section., you should see your created customized report on the list.

Hope this helps!

How to make custom journal report default for journal printing?

Thank you @vpcontroller  for your input. I did save the customized report. It is apparent in the customized report section but it is not runnable nor replaced the default transaction journal report.

it is quite unsatisfactory to see that earlier desktop versions have more functionalities and flexible structure.  If I would suggest something to the development team, it would be getting this product to earlier version of desktop versions functionalities.

Thank you @JamesDuanT . I tried everything possible but did not work. The system is not flexible enough to change its defaults. The customized version of the report is not runnable and you’ve explain the reasons why. This is one of the things that I’ve lost by moving from desktop version to the online one. If it possible to add a request, it would be getting back the previous desktop version’s functionalities. This one is a major downgrade on QuickBooks experience.
