How to transfer all my QB online data to QB desktop? Normal procedure does not transfer copies of receipts.

Hey there, @rdwhite659.

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community. Allow me to share some insight into how the export process works. There are limitations to the process, as some data cannot be transferred between the two versions. For a list of what won't be transferred, take a look at this article here: Export limitations - QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

Note: this article also offers steps on how to prepare for the migration.

Because QB Online needs to use DirectX to migrate data, the current method for exporting is the only one available. However, I have taken the time to submit feedback on your behalf to our team of Product Developers. This could be something changed in the future, as they use this feedback like this when considering ways to improve the program.

I see also you mentioned trying to export already. Just in case, here is the article for exporting from QB Online to QB Desktop: Export data file from QuickBooks Online to Desktop. I hope this helps to clear up the topic. Should you have additional questions about this or anything else QuickBooks, feel free to leave me a comment down below so I can get back to you. I'm always here to help.

Let me help you in transferring your client's files to your QuickBooks Accountant Desktop 2020, @tedfortaxes.

We can simply restore your company files from your old QuickBooks to the new one.

Before we transfer your file, we need to create a back up copy in your 2016 version. This will make sure that your data is safe during file transfer. Here's how:

  1. In the File menu and select Switch to Single-user Mode.
  2. Go back to the File menu and hover over Back up Company. Then, select Create Local Backup.
  3. Select Local Backup and click Next.
  4. In the Local Backup Only section, select Browse and choose where you want to save your backup company file.
  5. Set the number of backups you want to keep. This runs a test to make sure your backup file is in good shape before you save.
  6. Select OK.
  7. Click Save it now and Next.

Once done, you can now restore your company file to your QuickBooks Accountant Desktop. This file has a .qbb extension at the end of the file name.

In case you encounter errors while restoring your backup company file, you fix it by following the recommended steps provided in this article: Fix backup company file issues in QuickBooks Desktop.

If you have any other concerns, feedback, or questions, don't hesitate and come back to the Community. I'm always here to lend you a hand. Have a great day and stay safe.
