I am trying to record a received check that pays three invoices to the same customer. I get "the amount received can't be less than the selected charges (or credits)."??

This is not a credit card transaction. It's a paper check mailed to me. I tried another way to deposit and was told the check did not go through and the fault is from QB system failure. Why did they have to make such a simple task so complicated??

We're glad you've posted here in the Community, vcsinc. I'll provide the steps to record multiple invoice payments paid via paper check in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

The error message you received is due to the payment amount you entered doesn't match the open balance on the invoice in the system.

To fix this, I suggest double-checking your invoices and ensuring you've selected the corresponding ones to the payment amount you've entered. You can refer to the steps below for guidance.

  1. Go to the + New button.
  2. Choose Receive payment.
  3. From the Customer dropdown, select the name of the customer.
  4. From the Payment method dropdown, select Check.
  5. From the Deposit to dropdown, select the account you put the payment into.
  6. In the Outstanding Transactions section, select the checkbox for the invoice you're recording the payment for.
  7. Enter the Reference no. and Memo if needed.
  8. Select Save and close.
