Thanks for visiting the Community, ljcousseau. I'm here to share additional details about using SSN Social Security numbers (SSN) instead of Employer ID Numbers (EIN) for 1099 filing in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
In QBO, the EIN should be entered in the company profile and needed for 1099 filing even if you have a sole proprietorship business, not the SSN, since the SSN is required for employees and contractors. The SSN are formatted in XXX-XX-XXXX, while EIN are XX-XXXXXXX.
On the other hand, employees must have a valid SSN for payroll. This info goes on your employees' W-2s and, oftentimes, State Unemployment Insurance tax forms.
As the IRS assigns EINs to business entities, these are used to track payroll tax liabilities and payments. Thus, an SSN is required for employees and contractors only.

I was able to locate the correct EIN and not Quickbooks will not let me edit or correct this. The EIN entered is incorrect and I need to edit and change to the correct EIN. I am getting the following message:
You can't change the EIN, because you've enrolled the company in EFTPS and E-File. If you've received a new EIN, contact us for help updating the EIN in your payroll account.
This is not helping as the customer service person who has been attempting to help me is stating that Quickbooks has "locked" the ability to make any changes to the EIN. and this will not be changed until early February.
I will not then be able to file on time.
Someone in payroll should have the ability to let me make this change.
Please do not reply with a pat answer, but a resolution.

However, based on the message you received; your company's account is registered in an Electronic System for filing payroll forms. With this, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Online Support Team again. They're the best support group for such inquiries as they can request account information. This way, they'll be able to modify the details that need to be updated as soon as possible so you can file taxes on time.
