Join nowHello there, @keycard198. Let me help you find the category to label your Target purchases for resell in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE).
The QBSE platform is designed specifically for independent contractors and freelancers who file a Schedule C form with their 1040 at year-end. For the time being, the option to track inventory is unavailable in QBSE. With this, you're unable to find a category like Cost of Good Sold (COGS) or inventory to label some of the products you bought at Target to resell.
However, you can use the Supplies or Materials & Supplies category to label the items you buy and then sell or use to make the products you sell. This includes raw materials, packaging, and shipping. To do this, here's how:
You can learn more on how to categorize transactions in QBSE by checking out this article: Categorize transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.
On the other hand, you may consider upgrading your account to QuickBooks Online (QBO) if you want to track your inventory and use the COGS category. To see QBOs subscription options that'll fit your business needs, you can refer to this article: Pricing and subscription levels for QuickBooks Online.
Also, you may want to check out these articles as your reference in case you need a guide in categorizing transactions and using rules to manage them in QBSE:
Please keep me posted if there's anything else you need or questions about categorizing transactions in QBSE. You can drop a comment below, and I'll gladly help. Take care, and I wish you continued success, @keycard198.
Another option, consider switching to QBO Plus or Advanced to manage inventories.

then you can use an inventory management app to integrate QBO with Target. It complies with their x12 EDI standards to translate purchase orders, order responses, advance shipping notices, and invoices.
