Good day, @KMDezine Studio.

I understand the inconvenience of the sudden changes in the invoice layout. It is crucial to track bills according to the unit and hour as the type of measurement to avoid confusion.

Please know that reverting to the new layout and then using it permanently is unavailable. I recommend sharing this idea with our Product Development Team. They will review and consider them for future updates depending on the number of users' requests. Please know that we're unable to provide a timeline for its implementation.

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under the Profile column, select Feedback.
  3. Share your suggestion, then click Next.

You'll want to track your suggestion through this website. You can also visit our blog to keep up with recent events and developments.

To personalize and enhance your sales form, refer to this guide: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

See this article for the steps to record payments according to your situation: Record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online. It can be a partial payment or a grouping of multiple ones.

Don't hesitate to get back to me by clicking the REPLY button. You can also post here again if you have additional invoice-related concerns. I'll be more than happy to help you out again. Take care.

Sorry. I am confused. I just switched to QB online, and started using it. It didn't allow me to import data from the desktop version, so I have been entering invoices from the last 6 months into the online version. I HAD the ability to select UNIT or HOUR for every line item I entered, but now it is GONE! I don't know what I did, but I would like to have that back please. What do I have to do do get it the way it was?

Please help.

I was literally just using this feature yesterday, and don't know what happened. Maybe I clicked on something, but all I want to do is get it back to the way it was. When I was editing invoices, I had the ability to select UNIT or HOUR and the description was on a separate line. Now the description is on the same line- (single line) and there is no longer an option to select UNIT/HOUR- it just says QTY in that area??? what exactly did I do to make that go away. If I changed something on accident, I would like to put it back the way it was.

I appreciate you for coming back to the thread and clarifying your issue about the ability to select UNIT or HOUR in QuickBooks. I'll ensure you can see the option you want on the Invoice page by following the troubleshooting steps below.

QuickBooks Online's workflow has recently been updated. With this, selecting UNIT or HOUR when creating or updating an invoice is only available on the new layout. It could be that you have switched back to the old one, which is why the UNIT or HOUR is missing on your end.

I suggest Clicking the Try the new invoices option at the upper right corner beside the Gear icon. This way, you're able to view the new interface. I added screenshots below for visual reference.

Lastly, you may refer to this article if you need help viewing all the status of your sales transactions like open and paid invoices: View sales transactions.

Please know that you can always get back to this thread if you have any other clarifications or questions about managing your invoice in QBO. I'm always around to help, KMDezine Studio. Have a great day!

Did not solve problem. Still cannot select unit or hour. It only has quantity and you cannot change it. If I open the web app on the phone it has the ability to select flat rate, unit or hour. But online or with web app on Mac I cannot change it anymore??

Hello there. I can see that you did everything you could to get back to the new invoice experience. Allow me to share some information about this.

At the moment, if some QuickBooks Online (QBO) customers switch back to the old layout from the new layout, they won't have the option to enable it again. Our product developers are working to get this feature back in the future.

I know how beneficial for you to have this ability to use the Hour and Unit option in the invoice. However, right now, we don't have an exact time frame for when this will be implemented. That said, I recommend sending feedback to our product engineers so they can review this specific part of QBO. Here's how:

  1. In your QBO account, navigate to the Gear icon.
  2. Next, select the Feedback option.
  3. From there, enter the details of your product comments, suggestions, and requests.
  4. Then, click Next to submit.

You can visit our Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online website to track the suggestion you've submitted.

QBO also allows you to modify the template of your sales forms to include only the details you need. For detailed steps, check out this article: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

I'm always here ready to lend a hand if you have other concerns managing your invoices. Have a good day ahead, and stay safe.

I hate that they also removed this. I ended up putting a note in invoice that says UNIT = HOUR until they remedy this.

Agreed, it's ridiculous that this seems to be set to Units, regardless.  This is not correct -- the user should be able to choose but, even if they can't choose dynamically, the system should know from context that a Product is Units and a Service is Hours.  (Yes, I know there is a user mentioning that even some services should be allowed to select Unit, as well.)  There is no way the choice should have been lost, nor that a Service should default to Units instead of Hours.

Going back to old report style.

Please fix this ASAP!  No reason that this was reported a month ago and not yet fixed.  Very disappointing and unprofessional such a large, established organization.

Thanks.

How has this not been resolved? The inability to select "hour" renders QBO unusable to me. I had the ability to select hours for MONTHS and then you broke it and have not yet fixed. How are customers who provide an hourly service to clients expected to submits invoices that say we performed 3 "units" for a customer? Seriously?

I agree. I have also put a note on the invoice, but I think the notation looks unprofessional. Not sure why QB would foist this new format on us and remove functionality and clarity for customers. It's galling and I'm evaluating other providers.

Thankful to see your comment, I thought I was losing my mind & was just on the phone for over an hour with QB employee as she tried to help me but didn't have a clue what she was doing & didn't even know this was an issue. QB does not work for me if the get fixed soon.

Did everyone see that this has finally been corrected. You might need to go into your custom invoice settings but I fixed mine just now WOO HOO!

I'm not seeing how to fix this. Can you elaborate? What version of QBO are you using?

Thank you!

I personally use QB online via a mac, but I went to the Gear symbol top right, clicked on Custom Form Styles, click EDIT (just under ACTION on right side, and then you will see three top bottoms [ Design - Content - Emails ]. I clicked Content and there you can customize your invoice. Even add your own headers which is nice. I hope that helps.
