I want to add a column on the invoice page that shows taxable sales. Do you know how? Or is that a feature I need to request from Intuit developers?

I only have three choices to add columns in the cog on that page. Having that amount broken out would just make my life so much easier. OR being able to group reports by invoice number would be equally helpful.

Hi there, @maggie29

Thanks for your first post here in the Community. I'm here to answer all your questions.

At the moment, customizing the column on the invoice is an unavailable option in QuickBooks. You'll want to consider adding a custom field to your invoice and sales receipt instead. That way, you'll still be able to add the taxable sales to the invoice.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then select Account and Settings.
  2. Choose the Sales menu.
  3. Select the Sales form content.
  4. Put a checkmark on the Custom fields section.
  5. Click Save, and hit Done.

You can also check out this article as an additional guide to personalizing your invoice: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

Regarding the report, you may use the Invoice List report to show your invoices ordered with their assigned numbers in ascending sequence.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu, then enter and pick Invoice List in the Search field,
  2. In the Report Period, enter specific dates.
  3. Click Run Report (see screenshot 1).

By default, the invoice numbers are arranged from the first one you’ve created down to the most recent.

For future reference, read through this article: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online. It helps you learn about using filters to show the details you only want to display in a report.

I can already see the taxable sales on the invoice. What I want to avoid is opening every invoice to see it. I want to see a column for taxable sales on the list of invoices, where I can see all the invoices when I select "Invoices" under "sales" on the left hand menu.

Thanks for getting back to us, maggie29.

While the option to see a column for taxable sales on the Invoices tab under the Sales menu is currently unavailable in QuickBooks Online, as a way around, you can pull up and customize the Invoice List report to show the information you need.

  1. Click Reports in the left panel and search for the Invoice List report.

  2. On the report screen, click the Gear icon.
  3. Select the Taxable Amount or Tax Amount.

  4. This will show the taxable sales on each invoice.

I recommend customizing the report to get the specific details you need. You can also memorize it to save its current customization settings. It serves as your record and helps you quickly access it for future use.
