Income and Expense both showing as positive number on report

I'm switching over from QBD to QBO and recreating all of our memorized reports and have run into a problem where both income (4042 in the pic) and expense (5042 in the pic) transactions are showing up as positive numbers rather than one as positive and the other negative as they did in QBD. This causes the net amount at the bottom to be completely wrong. How can I fix this??

I appreciate the screenshots, EmilyEh.

Based on what you've provided, the report in QuickBooks Online shows the amounts of the transaction. While the one in QB Desktop shows the paid amount. Thus, resulting to different amounts on the reports.

You can customize reports in QuickBooks Online, you'll want to filter the report to show Paid Amount instead of the Amounts of the transactions,.

I'll be around if you have further questions.

Thank you so much Mary! That makes total sense :)

Now my only issue is that "Paid Amount" (which I see in QBD) isn't showing up as one of the column options in QBO? Any idea why? Does it have a different name in QBO?

Good afternoon, @EmilyEh

I hope your day is going well. Thanks for following up with the Paid Amount column not showing on your reports.

This type of column option wouldn't be available across all reports in QuickBooks Online, but there may be some customization options available that would be comparable to what your needs on specific reports.

I want to ask what type of information do you need on the report and what report you typically run?

I look forward to chatting with you soon. Have a safe and productive rest of your day!

Income and Expense both showing as positive number on report

I have several reports I need to run where I need to see related income/expense accounts separated by class. I attached a screenshot of one such report from QBD. I need to see the net effect of the income/expense, so I need one to show as a positive and the other as a negative. Does that make sense?

Thank you for the screenshot, EmilyEh.

If it's a negative amount, it should be showing as a negative amount as well on the report.

You'll want to check the transactions to see if it's posting correctly. Here's how:

  1. Click Accounting on the left pane.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Locate the bank register, then click View register.
  4. Locate the transactions.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

I'm sorry, that doesn't help. The transactions are posting correctly, I just need to be able to generate a report like I had in QBD where it shows the expenses as negatives and the income as positives. Is that possible in QBO?

Hi there, @EmilyEh.

To show the same figures in QuickBooks Online, we need to run the transaction journal in each program to check the correct posting (debit credit).

Here's how:

(QBDT)

  1. Go to the Reports tab.
  2. Choose Accountants and Taxes.
  3. Select Journal.

(QBO)

  1. Go to the Reports in the menu tab then, select Reports.
  2. In the search box, type in Journal.

Once both show the incorrect posting, then you may need to delete and recreate the transactions.
