Is the data within the MARKUP field in an Estimate captured or reportable?

I'd like to find a way to generate a report or at least export (CSV) this data (MARKUP).  Can it be found and exported?  If so, where and how to I access it?

Thank you!

Is the data within the MARKUP field in an Estimate captured or reportable?

Hi there, benjyw.

Thanks for taking the time to reach out to us. I'm here to help provide some insights about the estimate report in QuickBooks Desktop.

Currently, there isn't a report in QuickBooks Desktop that will show the markup field for estimate transactions. For the meantime, you can generate the Transaction List by Customer report and customize it to estimate. This way, you'll be able to locate the markup field by opening each transactions.

To pull up the Transaction List by Customer report, here's how:

  1. At the top menu bar, click Reports.
  2. Select Customer and Receivables.
  3. Choose Transaction List by Customer.
  4. Click Customize Report.
  5. Select Filters.
  6. On the Search Filters tab, type-in TransactionType.
  7. Click the TransactionType drop-down arrow, and select Estimate
  8. Select OK.

For additional reference, you can check this article on how to customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop

That should do it! I'm just a post away if you have additional questions about the Estimate transaction. Have a good one.

Is the data within the MARKUP field in an Estimate captured or reportable?

I chatted with Jelica C at QB support today about this because we have the same question.  She wrote the following:

Alright, as I double check here I can see that markup is not
an option when we try to customize your report.
The only available columns we can add are the options
we see when we click on Customize report then under
display Tab under columns those are the only information we can include.
I do apologize but for now, that is not yet possible.
But I already take note of that so that our
product engineer can work on this to be available.

I also called support and spoke with rep John Bernard who also mentioned that although we can export a report (or Transaction Journal showing the details of the estimate), we cannot export the Estimate itself and since when we turn an Estimate into a form of report (I turn them into Transaction Journals in order to export them), we lose the ability to have the Markup column show up.
Hope that's helpful.

I don't see how your report will show us any markup column. Please advise.

Thanks for coming back to the Community, SecuritySystem.

Let me clear this up for you.

As my colleague JanyRoseB mentioned, we currently don't have a report that can include the markup field of the estimates. You can run and customize the Transaction List by Customer to show only the estimate transactions. However, you'll have to manually open the estimates to see the markup.

Please reach out to me if there is anything else I can help you with. I'll always be here to assist you.

You have no idea how INCREDIBLY useful this would be...seems very simple to add this to me.

Then you could run an Estimates by Job Report, which could be a proxy for your Bookings.  Then you would know the volume of jobs booked every month and the GP on each one.

Ah, I dream a dream.

Intuit, can you make it a reality please?

Has there been any update on this? I need to pull a commission report for our sales staff. We have a staggered commission rate based on the profit margin. Its extremely time consuming to open every single estimate to see what the markup is. QuickBooks- you should be better! :(

I appreciate you for reaching out to the Community, @RachelCC.

I hear you and realize the convenience of being able to pull up a report that displays the markup used on the estimates. For now, to get the markup details you may open the estimate manually.

Was this ever solved?
Did Intuit finally cared to add such a needed feature?

Hi @ElRada, I'll share information about creating estimates.

As of the moment, there isn't an integrated way to include the MARKUP column on estimates while generating your reports. Ans we're unable to provide the exact turnaround time as to when this feature will be added.

While the option is not yet available, I suggest letting our product developers know about your request by sending feedback. I'll show you how.

  1. Go to Help.
  2. Select Send Feedback Online.
  3. Click Product Suggestion.
  4. Under Product Area, choose Reports.
  5. Enter a few words describing how you wanted to have the option to include markup in an estimate while creating a report.
  6. Select Send Feedback.
  7. Click Close Window.

I'm adding a couple of articles below that'll allow you to dive in deeply and understand your report:
