Is there a way to change the form for creating budgets? The fact that you cannot shrink the ridiculous row size makes this very difficult.

When you go with less than full screen, you cannot see your line items and totals together.  I need to do a split screen to work off of the previous years actuals.
Suggestions:
1.  (Quick fix) Make the form like a spreadsheet where you can manipulate column width in order to view properly
2.  Have budget creation form that shows the actuals from previous years on the form you are using to create.
Maybe someone has already figured this out or I'm just working in the wrong place but really could use some help or simply need to request an upgrade to the entire budget input process for QBO.

I appreciate you for getting back to us, hanser007.

Let's run some steps to isolate why you don't have the option to drag the column width.

To start with, log into your account in an incognito window. Here is a list of keyboard shortcuts to open one:

  • For Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • For Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • For Microsoft Edge: Ctrl Shift P
  • For Safari: Shift N

If it works, you can go back to a regular browser and clear its cache. Piled browser history can be the reason for some issues on the page. You may also switch to a different browser like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, or Microsoft Edge.

Hey there, @hanser007.

I'll be more than happy to assist you today.

Let me give you information on how to adjust the column width and show the actual data from the previous years on the budget form in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Here's how to create a budget:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. In the Tools column, click Budgeting.
  3. Click Add budget.
  4. To adjust the column, move the mouse cursor between the column headers until the cursor changes to a horizontal double-sided arrow. Once the arrow is visible, click-and-drag the mouse to the right or left to increase or decrease the column width. (Note: Only the column width can be adjusted not the row).
  5. Click the Pre-fill data dropdown to show the Actual data from the previous year.
  6. Click Next, then fill in the necessary information.
  7. Click Save.

Moreover, you can directly submit feedback to our software engineer about making the form like a spreadsheet where you can adjust the row and column width. You can click this link to submit feedback: How do I submit feedback?

Additionally, if you want another way to view your budget on data from either the current fiscal year o the previous year. You can run a Profit and Loss Detail report. I'll provide the article where you can read through the process just go to Step 2 Get your budget data: Create budgets in QuickBooks Online.

Keep me posted if you have more questions about creating a budget. I'll be happy to lend a hand. Keep safe.

No option that you are suggesting is available either in the desktop app or in browser.  I'm working on an annual budget and have no drop down options and cannot grab the outside of the form to shrink the column width.
