Hello michele5,
There's a way to create a statement for your sub-client. Please follow these steps:
Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
A wonderful day to you, @jaid28.
I appreciate you for sharing detailed information. It seems that the sub-customer was set to Bill with parent, which is why the statement shows a zero balance.
To correct this, let's go to your customer information page and switch settings to Bill this customer.
Here's how:
1. Hover your mouse on the Sales tab at the right panel.
2. Select Customers.
3. Click on the sub-customer's name.
4. Click the Edit button at the top right.
Under Is sub-customer, one of the drop-down boxes was named for a specific customer. Click on the 2nd box and choose Bill this customer. Then, click Save.
That should let you create and print a statement showing your sub-customer's overdue balance.

Feel free to post here in Community if you have other concerns. Cheers!
Katherine,
Thank you so much! That did the trick!! I have checked and unchecked that little box, but I wasn't sure how it affected all the facets. It goes to show that just one little check box can make a HUGE difference!! That was driving me crazy!! =)

Hi Jaid,
I'm glad it worked! Have a nice day.
Hi all
I followed the instructions to unclick the bill parent box but QBO says I cannot do that because I have payments from the parent that have been used to pay sub-customer bills. Refuses to let me change that. It is also not letting me undo the parent-sub set up even if I wanted to, due to there being pre-existing transactions.
Is it really impossible to product statements for sub-customers in isolation from each other?
Help
I recognize how important it is to flawlessly create a statement for a sub-client in QuickBooks Online (QBO), MoHandford. I'm here to help you sort this out.
We appreciate you following through on the suggested solution in this thread. I'm here to explain what the error message means. QBO has safeguards in place to prevent errors when moving or editing data. Because there are existing transactions linked to the sub-customer you're attempting to move, you'll need to go into each transaction for that specific sub-customer and change the assigned customer to the parent before you can uncheck the box. When moving the transactions, there are a few things to keep in mind:
Another workaround for this specific issue is to edit those transactions related to both the parent and the sub-customer. We can make use of the Transaction List by Customer report, to get a view of the related transactions you need to edit. Here's how to change the customer's name on the sales transaction:
Once done, we can now change the option to Bill this customer/client. Here's how:
Additionally, I've included an article that'll help you personalize your sales forms in QuickBooks Online. This helps you add the info that matters most to your business: Customize Invoices, Estimates, and Sales Receipts.
I'm only a post away if you need more help in managing your sales transactions. It's always my pleasure to help you out again.
Hello,
I am having the same issue, however this particular sub customer has hundreds of previous transactions connected to the parent. We have been dealing with both the parent customer and the sub-customer for years, but now they would like to make a change where the sub-customer will now pay their own bills. Is there really no better way than to individually un-link every single transaction before I can edit the sub-customer to no longer be such? It seems extremely unreasonable to have to go through years of former transactions to make this simple adjustment. Would it be better just to create a new customer file all together for the former sub-customer and start fresh with the new billing protocols?
Welcome to the Community, @emlaw. Let me share information on how we can proceed with your customer concern.
Yes, you can make a new customer profile using the details of your sub-customer to start fresh.
If you want to separate the record in which your sub-customer paid their invoices, you'll need to delete those transactions from the parent-customer, including the sub-customer. After that, recreate those transactions and link them to the new sub-customer profile. Here are some things you have to keep in mind before proceeding:
