Hello there. tad151.
I can see how important for you and your business to reorder the accounts of your chart of accounts. Currently, this option isn't possible in QuickBooks Online. Instead, you can sort the list in ascending or descending order.
Here's how:
Alternatively, you can use the account number to organize your chart of accounts. You'll need to enable this feature if you want to assign a number to your accounts. I'll show you how.
For complete instructions, check out this article: Use account numbers in your chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online.

Will QuickBooks Online gain the function to reorder the Chart of Accounts anytime soon? This was an important feature that we didn't realize we would lose moving to Online.
Hi there, @JTWard.
We understand how important it is for you and your company to improve the reports in QuickBooks Online. I'm here to share some workaround.
This option is currently unavailable in QuickBooks Online. You can instead sort the data in ascending or descending order.
Optionally, you can arrange your chart of accounts using the account number. If you want to allocate tasks to your accounts, you must first allow this feature. I'll demonstrate how:
I also added this article about categorizing your finances in QuickBooks Online.

We use a workaround. Simply rename your accounts with a leading exclamation point, then sort the list by name. We wanted our bank accounts listed first, followed by our credit accounts, so we used 2 leading exclamation points for our bank accounts.
Our list now looks similar to this:
!!Bank Account 1
!!Bank Account 2
!Credit Account 1
!Credit Account 2
!Credit Account 3
etc
etc
It isnt ideal but it works!
This is a basic feature and ridiculous that QB cannot add this to the online. QB gets worse and worse every year and charges more and more for nothing.
I would also like to know how to turn off advertising while I am working. Distracting.
This seems like such a basic feature that makes no sense why QB cannot have this on the online.
We pay an awful lot of money for a product that gets worse and worse every year.
This worked with a . instead so thank you for the suggestion!
I agree with you - most functions in QB online are difficult and time consuming. I have figured out how to print a chart of accounts in the online version in numerical order. Here's how -
Click the gear icon
Select chart of accounts
Just to the left of new account, click run report
Hit switch to classic view just to the left of more actions/export print/ save as
This should put them in numerical order and then you can filter for columns or just print.
If you just want to renumber them -
Click on the gear icon
Chart of Accounts
click on the arrow next to number
This should do it. If it doesn't, chalk it up to another disappointing feature of QB online.

Thanks for your reply, but I'm not trying to print the Chart of Accounts, I want to change the order the accounts show up in the reports.
We are not using account numbers, but with the desktop QuickBooks, that was no problem as we could arrange the Chart of Accounts in the order we wanted then all of the reports would list the accounts in that order. Of course, the Balance Sheet and P&L always have the big categories in Accounting order and we're not trying to change that. But in the Expense accounts, for instance, QBOnline seems to only list the accounts in alphanumeric order.
I assume we could turn on account numbers then assign the numbers in the order we want with the reports showing accounts in numerical order, but your answer makes me question that (I have to switch to Classic view and export?).
We could also make up account names that will cause the alphanumeric sort order to be the order we want, but that gives us some awkward names. We could possibly add a number as part of the name.
