Can someone please explain to me why I'm showing a credit for a customer job on the left side of the customer summary, even though I cut a check for the same amount - $4100? I've attached a view of the customer's transactions.

Hey there, @trocky.
Thank you for sharing your concern in the QuickBooks Community and providing a screenshot. I'm happy to offer insights on the potential cause of credit balance in your customer's account in QuickBooks.
The balance that's showing in the customer's account depends on the transactions that you've created inside QuickBooks.
To investigate the cause of the credit balance in your customer's account, I recommend running the Customer Balance Detail report. Then, carefully review each transaction along with the associated accounts used in them. This will help us identify the potential source of the credit balance in your customer's account.
Here's how to access the report:
I also recommend reaching out to your accountant so they can assist you in reviewing the list of your customer's transactions. They can individually examine each transaction to help identify the potential cause of the credit balance.
Furthermore, you can generate various sales reports in QuickBooks Desktop to effectively track your business's sales.
If you have any additional questions about reviewing your customer's balance in QuickBooks, please add them to this conversation, and I'll be happy to assist you further. Have a great day.

So the customer balance detail showed $0. So after looking at that in detail, we were able to figure out that a transaction was applied incorrectly. I had to change the payment to the a/r account (debiting a/r) then went into receive payment and applied the credit against the invoice and made a $0 deposit.
Thanks for your help!
