New to quickbooks and am currently using Quickbooks online essentials. I do not keep inventory and just order parts as needed for clients. I add a new non inventory part but I dont see the i buy this part from a vendor information. Need to get my cost in there as well as sell price.
Do i need to upgrade my version of QB online?
No, a non inventory part in essentials is for purchases
Thanks!
So i would need to upgrade to get that option correct? When I go to products and services I see the cost line but no option to input.
Hi @sunshineIT,
Thank you for your prompt reply. Allow me to join the thread and answer this query for you.
What you said is right. You'll need to upgrade your QuickBooks Online (QBO) subscription to the Plus version, at the least. It allows you to input a cost and an expense account for a non-inventory item.
See the Plans and Pricing page for a comparison of QuickBooks products available features.
Feel free to get back here in the Community if you have other questions with your QBO company. I'll be around to help you out.
I am having issues in this area as well. Our business consist of drop shipping as well as inventory. We are installing a integration to maintain real time inventory on Amazon and our website. However, dropship items have no inventory. Here is the catch, the integration needs these items to be non-inventory to avoid showing zero availability. But, we had to change all skus to inventory, because non-inventory items do not list cost in product sales reports, making it impossible to check margins. Is there a simple fix to solve the reporting issue, so we can go back to listing dropship items as non-inventory.
Hi, janderson61.
I understand that you want your dropship items as non-inventory. However, non-inventory items in QuickBooks are tracked in Cost of Good Sold when purchased.
If you still want to track cost in product reports, you can set it up as a non-inventory and then mark it as a drop ship item.
Since this option isn't available, you can suggest or send feedback and product requests for improvement. Here's how:
