I want to produce a report that, in effect, produces a journal entry for the ledger activity over a period of time. I need to run this report for "January", "February", "March", etc. So far, I can run the General Ledger report and add columns for "Debit", "Credit", and "Account#". The issues I can observe are:
The goal is to produce the journal entry for a period's activity so that it can easily be exported/imported into another financial system.
Many thanks for the community's consideration of this issue.
I've got you covered, myelspand733.

Thank you. But this doesn't really cover my issue. I am trying to remove report "groupings". I am also trying to get a summary of the detailed data. The total of general ledger activity by account.
Thanks for getting back to this thread, @myelspand733. Let me clarify things about generating a General Ledger summary report.
Normally, when you run the report, it shows detailed transactions for each account. This is because a General Ledger refers to a record containing individual accounts showcasing the transactions related to each of such accounts. It is a group or collection of accounts that give you information regarding the detailed transactions with respect to each of such accounts.
If you wish to have a summary of it, I suggest exporting the report to an Excel file. From there, you can manipulate the records to have the data you wanted.
To proceed, please follow the steps below:
Then, open the downloaded Excel file. From there, exclude the accounts with zero activity and produce the journal entry for a period's activity.

These responses are not helpful and certainly not what the originator asked for. Like me, the original post is asking that the report not contain detailed data for the period. Just the opening balance, TOTAL TRANSACTIONS for the period/month and the ending balance at the end of the period/month. Just 3 lines instead of line after line after line after line of detail that isn't needed or wanted. It was a very easy report to run in QB desktop. Online seems to be geared towards the incredibly stupid and inexperienced at accounting. A person with experience cannot easily navigate QB online since the menus are all severely "dumbed down." I used desktop from the first year it was created and became a Certified Quickbooks Expert. I only began using online recently and have found it to be a huge nightmare and geared more towards the person selling pottery out of their garage than for a well established business with an accounting staff. To suggest that the only way to get G/L Summary Balances is by exporting your entire General Ledger to Excel and then sorting through hundreds of pages of data is just mind boggling. If QB Online is incapable of generating such a simple and often used report, then it is not a very useful piece of software! (NOTE: I found this thread while searching for a way to run the report the same way)
