Product Sales Not Appearing on P&L? MacDesktop2020

I can see my revenues from consulting, but nothing related to product sales. I purchase various items at a discount and then charge retail. Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you for joining the QuickBooks Community, hellobirdybird. First, we will verify if you can see the COGS account listed as an option on the filter menu for the Profit and Loss Report.

  1. Go to Reports menu, then select Company & Financial, then Profit & Loss Detail.
  2. Select the Customize Report and go to the Filters tab.
  3. Type Name in the Choose Filter field.
  4.  In the Name drop-down menu, choose your Cost of Goods Sold account, then OK to save the changes.

With this adjustment, you should be able to see your product sales. This article is convenient for understanding and tracking inventory assets and the cost of goods sold. I also encourage you to check out this article for more information on how to customize reports in QBDT: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

Please let me know how it goes or if you need additional assistance with the Profit and Loss report. The Community and I will be here to help you! Until then, I hope you enjoy your afternoon.

I truly appreciate the help! The COGS are definitely included. In the income section, I can see our "Professional Services", but no income from product sales.

Thanks for the clarification, @hellobirdybird.

I’m here to share some insights on how you can see the income of your sales product.

To do so, you’ll want to check the Income Account assign to the item. The product sale of the item will post to the account that is attached to it. Let me guide you how on your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac software:

  1. Go to the Lists menu.
  2. Select Item List.
  3. Locate and select your product item.
  4. From the Income Account section, you’ll see the account that is assigned to the item. 1.JPG1.JPG

If the account is not listed on your Profit and Loss reports, I recommend running the Verify and Rebuild utility tool. This easily finds and fixes uncommon issues within your company file.

Additionally, you might also want to check this article that can guide you to the steps on how to generate reports to show the data you need: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

Let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with about running reports in your QBDT for Mac. I’d be more than happy to help you. Have a great weekend ahead.
