Let me provide some information about using the same invoice number for multiple invoices, Kim.

The old invoicing experience in QuickBooks allowed users to override the warning prompt when using the same invoice number. However, the option to utilize the same invoice number for multiple invoices is unavailable in the new invoice layout. With this, I recommend sending a product suggestion through the Feedback section. This will allow our product developers to consider adding your valuable insights in future updates.

Here's how to send feedback in QuickBooks Online:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Select Feedback under the Profile column.
  3. Enter your product suggestions.
  4. Click Next to submit.

You can check out this article for more info on the new layout in QuickBooks Online: See what’s new with estimates and invoices.

Once you're done invoicing your customers, here's a guide on recording their payments: Record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online.

Yes, the new restriction on the invoice numbers, while not quite the stupidest change Intuit made, is close!

Intuit seems to have completely lost their collective memory regarding what makes a good invoice feature. The more I read here the more I cringe at just how bad the new invoices are. It's literally astounding!

QB always wants to send everything to their team to evaluate.  But a bunch of computer nerds think their ideas are best and those suggestions will wind up in the trash bin.  Maybe they should check with people in the real world who use the software to find out what they think about the changes before foisting them on the paying customer who have zero recourse.

I believe I did submit a product change request about the discontinued allowance of duplicating invoice numbers.

This is the most dumb change I have seen them do since we have had their service for the last 5 years! Suddenly billing for our customers is a nightmare and all they have to say about it is "well send us feedback" Which for the price we pay is ridiculous.

I have come across some dumb crap in Quickbooks but I think this might be at the top of my dumb crap list. I have to enter change orders when we have a change on the job that requires more invoicing. I use estimates to do this and name it Change Order 1 or 2, etc. Now I have to get creative and come up with different names for my change orders even though they are for different customers. This annoys me. I want to invoice, not think up poetry. So I get to do Change Order 1, Change Order #1, CO#1, COrder#1, CO1.......you get the idea. Change it back! Not being able to reuse invoice numbers across different customers is super annoying. This is not how you make happy customers.
