OMG!!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS WAS THE ISSUE. How hard could it be to fix a simple bug like that? That's such an odd bug to have as well. That would also explain why sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. I thought I was being gaslit. I felt like that singing and dancing Frog from Looney Tunes. I FELT looney. Oh my lord. Thank you for identifying this.
Hello there.
I'll help you perform troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue of being unable to see the magnifying glass when hovering the mouse into the numbers.
You can first check the display settings of your computer. Refer to this article for the troubleshooting steps for screen issues: Fix screen issues in QuickBooks Desktop.
If the issue persists, I recommend you download QuickBooks Tool Hub.
Here's how:
Once done, proceed with running Quick fix my program. Here are the steps:

Very Frustrating that the QB Team responses don't even check to see if they have fixed the issue that everyone... over and over ... has identified as the problem. The smartest guy in this chat was Smoore33 and first to identify the problem. Stop telling people to download the toolbox that hasn't been updated for 15 months and fix the 'code that tracks the monitor position' for the Y dimension. That. Is. The. Problem.
Just fix it.
I know this is an older thread but the issue seems to persist into QB2023 as well.
I too have a 3 monitor set-up and couldn't figure out the missing zoom selector issue until you mentioned the screen coordinates. I have a laptop which is centered between and below my two extended monitors. The laptop was set as my primary display and QB worked just fine there, but that is not my "working" monitor so I moved QB to the upper left monitor. That's when the issue became apparent. I tried moving QB to the upper right monitor with the same result.
I was able to correct the issue by going into my Display Settings and selecting my upper left monitor as my primary display. A few things happened :
1. The zoom selector issue was resolved and I was able to click into the transaction details once again on both upper monitors.
2. The text on-screen within QB was clearer (not sure why this was an issue in the first place).
3. My desktop shortcuts moved to the new primary monitor, which wasn't a big deal for me, I only had a few.
So, not sure how this will work out for everyone, but that worked for me.
Good luck!
To fix this go to view at the top menu bar and select multi-monitor-mode.
