QBO won't allow me to edit detail type on my chart of accounts

I'm trying to edit the detail type on several Charts of Accounts. It won't let me change the type from a COGs type to Insurance, etc. It's so odd. A very simple change should be allowed. but it doesn't seem to take. Suggestions?

QBO won't allow me to edit detail type on my chart of accounts

Hello onpar072-gmail-c,

You may be experiencing some browser-related issues. That said, try performing troubleshooting steps to isolate where the issue comes from.

To start with, try reviewing the updates on an incognito window. It is the best place to identify browser-related concerns. I've added these keyboard keys to open one:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Command Shift N

If it updates, you can go back to a regular browser and clear its cache . Once caches are piled up, it can cause unexpected issues on the opened pages.

You also have the option to switch to a different browser like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, or Microsoft Edge.

I've also added this reference as your guide in modifying an account: Taming the chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online.

I'll be around if ever you need help in categorizing the items. Keep safe!

This doesn't resolve this issue. It's a coding glitch.

There is a pop-up window stacked on top of another confirmation window that doesn't allow you to click and "advance" to the confirmation screen. This is simply bad CSS script coding and affects all browsers equally. It's not related to clearing cached data sets.

QBO won't allow me to edit detail type on my chart of accounts

I have the same exact issue:  two pop-up windows stack on top of each other, and I'm unable to confirm that I want to change the type of account before hitting "save and close."  I  am still seeking resolution to this problem.

Reporting the same problem:  2 windows stack on top of each other.  Impossible to access the pop up to approve the change.

QBO won't allow me to edit detail type on my chart of accounts

Greetings, Hudie! I'm pleased to greet you as you visit this Community forum. Thank you for sending us your concern. I'd be glad to assist you in addressing the problem.

QuickBooks periodically exhibits odd behavior and generates runtime issues due to a browser problem. In the interim, let's fix the issue using fundamental browser troubleshooting. Let's edit the detail type on your chart of accounts in a private window to get started. The keyboard shortcuts are as follows:

  • Safari: Command + Shift + N
  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + P

If it's successful, switch back to your default browser and delete the cache to start over. If not, you can use a different browser that is compatible. There might be a short-term QuickBooks issue with the one you're currently using.

Moreover, it indicates that pop-up windows are being blocked if you click a button or link and nothing happens. Please refer to this article for troubleshooting tips: Why doesn't anything happen when I select a button or link?
