Question Mark in Chart of Accounts with QuickBooks Desktop

Hi,

 

I purchased a license for QBD and created a new company file. I enabled the account number to show with the account in the chart of accounts. However, there is a question mark between the account number and the accounts. I thought it was not a big deal but I was wrong. When I try to import COA from Excel, it gives me a 100% error.

 

When I run reports like the balance sheet, I still see the question mark for each account.

I have already uninstalled and reinstalled QBD. It doesn't help to fix this issue.

 

If anyone can help me with this? Thanks.

This special character (?) appearing on your COA is a sign of a data issue, dennis3414. We'll help you get through this by performing some troubleshooting steps.

 

Let's start by ensuring your Operating System language setting matches the QuickBooks program. Set your computer as English (United States). Then, restart your workstation to refresh the system.

 

If you still see question mark signs after completing the task above, let's re-sort your COA lists. Here's how:

 

  1. In your QBDT account, click the Lists tab.
  2. Next, choose Chart of Accounts.
  3. Then, scroll down and place a checkmark in the Include Inactive box.
  4. After that, select the Account button at the bottom left and select Re-sort List.
  5. Select the OK button. 
  6. Close and reopen your company file.

Once everything is settled, perform monthly reconciliations to ensure the accuracy of your accounts' records.

Thank you for your response. I tried all the solutions you mentioned. None of them work in my case.

 

1. The default language is English (US), even though there is a secondary language available in my Windows 11.

2. I found the Included Inactive box, but it is greyed out. Unable to check the box.

3. I followed the instructions step by step in the article you sent. No errors are detected, but the issues remain.

 

I even tried to install QBD on another computer. The "?" still existed after I applied "use account number" in COA.

 

Please advise what else I can do. The version is QBD Premire Plus 2023.

Here's how to reach them:

 

  1. Go to the Help icon and select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Click Contact Us.
  3. Write your concerns in the description box, then select Continue.
  4. Select which one of the support options you'd like to use.

This happens when a special font that QuickBooks installs has been removed or is corrupted. Reinstalling or Repairing the QuickBooks program will usually fix it.
