Report date pulling from what field???

When pulling a report and filtering down between dates, let's say 1/1/23 - 6/30/23, how does anyone know what data QB's is using to filter between those dates??? Is it looking at an estimate date, start date, closed date?

For example the WIP report using an end date of 6/31. It's pulling all projects marked "active" by an estimate date or the start date?

Job Profitability Report - same question. What date is QB's looking at to determine what hits the report?

Report date pulling from what field???

Hello there, Gambit. I can provide some insights about the posting date for your job profitability and work-in-progress reports in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

The work-in-progress report utilizes the transaction date of your estimates. You can see this screenshot for your visual reference.

On the other hand, the Job Profitability report uses the date of your posting transaction or when the estimate gets converted into an invoice.

If you'd like to see all the estimate entries recorded by jobs or customers, you may consider checking out the Estimates by Job report.

  1. Tap on Jobs, Time & Mileage from the Reports tab.
  2. Select Estimates by Job.

For additional tips when working with your QBDT reports, check out this article: Understand reports. The same resource will walk you through memorizing them to preserve their current customization settings for later use.

If you have follow-up questions about QBDT reports, let me know by leaving a comment below. I'm just a few clicks away to help. Have a good one!

Report date pulling from what field???

Perfect. Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.

Is there a "cheat sheet" that clearly identifies what date data is being utilized for all the reports?

Report date pulling from what field???

We're glad you've got the information you need, Gambit. We appreciate your follow-up response, and I've come to share additional insights about these reports.

When reviewing and tracking transactions through data reports, it's a great idea to know when and what details were being used when running each report. Currently, this ability is unavailable in QuickBooks Desktop. However, you can send this relevant suggestion to our product developers to ensure users are guided when managing their data entries and provide convenience when viewing summary and detailed reports. You can submit this feedback to them to allow the creation of informative article guides that will serve as the "cheat sheet" for you and other customers.

Thus, here's how to send feedback:

  1. Go to the Help menu at the top and select Send Feedback Online.
  2. Click on Product Suggestion and enter your feedback or suggestions.
  3. Once done, click Send feedback.

Moreover, you'll want to add specific customizations to your reports to help you review your business finances and other accounting data.

We'll keep an eye on this thread to ensure we've got you covered for any additional questions you may have when managing reports in your account. Feel free to leave a reply in the comments below. Keep safe and have a good one!
