Report to search for Discounts that are listed after Taxable Subtotal on Sales Receipts in QBO

Hi,

I need to change Sales Receipts that have the Discount line item listed after the Taxable Subtotal.  I want all Sales Tax to be calculated after the Discount is applied.

I have hundreds of Sales Receipts that need this change.

I've tried building reports several reports showing various amounts like Subtotal, Totals, Taxes, etc.  that I could even use as a clue to sift through all the Sales Receipts - but no success.

I know how to change the Sales Receipt once I find it. by use the Discount toggle switch.  The question is how do I find the Receipts that did the Discount toggle changed?

Thanks,

Corina

Report to search for Discounts that are listed after Taxable Subtotal on Sales Receipts in QBO

Hey there, @s1b

Thanks for taking the time to reach out to the QuickBooks Community. I hope you're having a great day so far.

You can run the Sales by Customer Detail report and customize it to show discounts. All you'll need to do is add the Memo/Description column. I'm including some steps to walk you through the process below.

  1. Open the Sales by Customer Detail report.
  2. Click Customize and click Rows/Columns.
  3. Check the box for Memo/Description.
  4. Click Run report.

That should do the trick. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please let me know.

In the meantime, here are a couple of help guides that provide more information about reports:

I hope you have a wonderful day ahead. I'm here if you need me. Take care!

Report to search for Discounts that are listed after Taxable Subtotal on Sales Receipts in QBO

Thanks for your reply.  I was able to use your tip with additional report conditions to get what I need.

I added a Filter for "taxable" Not equal to "Yes"

And for Memo/Desc is Equal to "Discount"

Now the customized version of the Sales by Customer Detail report shows my any Sales Reciept that has the Discount line item after the Sales Tax.   I can now click on only those listed and toggle the Discount item so that it is above the Sales Tax.

Note: this custom report can be used when your Sales Tax Liability report and your Out of State sales revenue does not equal your actual sales because QB is taking the total before the discount amount as your revenue.  Once you toggle the Discount to before sales tax, the Sales Tax Liability report shows revenue correctly.

The P&L Income (or Sales report) =  NonTaxable Sales + out of state sales + Taxable Sales.

I could not figure out why my out of state sales on Sales Tax Liability report was higher than on all the other regular sales reports.  If Discounts is not correctly toggled, the reports will show different Sales amounts.
