Reports

I am running QBOnline Advanced.  I have customized a Transaction List by Date report by adding a column for Customer (Transaction line items: Customer).  The Customer column is blank, returning no data, even though there is data in that field in the underlying entries.  Also, that field is correctly populated if I run different reports on the same data.  Any ideas how I can get this report to populate correctly?

Update:  I have discovered that customer does show up in "Billable Expense Charge" transaction type but not "Expense."   My problem is that I want a report that shows this data even when the transaction is not billable.

Reports

Let's determine why the customer column in your report is blank and fix it to help you with your task, @JCCNDPLP.

In the Transaction List by Date report as long as the customer is related to the transaction, it will show in the Customer column. Let's review the report to see if it is filtered to empty customers.

I'll show you how:

  1. Go to the Reports in the main menu.
  2. Search for the Transaction List by Date report using the search box in the upper right.
  3. Click the filter icon and check if it was Filter by Customer with the "is empty" option tagged.
  4. If the report is filtered to the customer and tagged as "an empty" option, change it to "is not empty" to show customers in the customer column you added in the report.

I've included a screenshot for your reference:

If the report is not filtered, I recommend performing some troubleshooting steps to help isolate the issue. Sometimes, numerous cached files can cause unusual browser behavior. Let's access QuickBooks Online through a private window.

Here are some key shortcuts for accessing a private window:

  • Mozilla Firefox: CTRL + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

If customers are shown in the column after this, the root cause of the issue must be with your regular browser. I suggest clearing your regular browser's cache. You can also use other devices and supported browsers as an alternative.

I've also included some articles that guide how to run and manage reports in QBO:
