Sales Report for Assembly Item That Contains a Specific Inventory Part

Hello,

I was wondering if it is possible to run a Sales Report that only shows items sold containing a specific inventory part. (we are using this for inventory projections for next year). So for instance, if I have a bunch of cookies (Inventory Assembly Item) that I sell, but only want to see sales for cookies that contain chocolate chips (Inventory Part), how would I run that report?

Thanks for your help!

Sales Report for Assembly Item That Contains a Specific Inventory Part

I understand how important it is to view the inventory part of an assembly item, User_1234.

In QuickBooks, we can only see the sales for a specific item that contains an inventory part on the Build Assembly page. There, we can print the details.

We can also run the Custom Transaction Detail report. Doing so helps us view the transactions associated with the items. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Select Custom Reports and then choose Transaction Detail.
  3. Type in Item under Columns, then place a checkmark.
  4. Go to the Filters tab, then type in Item.
  5. Choose the cookies that contain chocolate chips.
  6. Customize the other details.
  7. Once done, click OK.

For more details about personalizing its details, please see this article: Customize Reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

Sales Report for Assembly Item That Contains a Specific Inventory Part

Thank you for your reply, but that's not quite what I'm looking for. We have hundreds of items, and I don't know the exact recipe contents for each one. I'm trying to find a way where I don't have to look at the recipe list to select each item that would contain "chocolate chips".  I was hoping to do a sales report that only shows me the 100 or so items that contain the "chocolate chips" or another specific ingredient, rather than manually selecting Assembly build item that contains the inventory part.

If Quickbooks does not have that capability it's fine, I just wanted to try this before I sunk a bunch of time into doing it the long way.

Sales Report for Assembly Item That Contains a Specific Inventory Part

Hi there, User_1234.

At this moment, the only way to check the inventory part of the assembly item is when running the Build Assembly page.

You can print the components you need to build an assembly item. Please see the attached screenshot below for your reference.

When you build, QuickBooks automatically updates your stock of components. For the step-by-step process of building an assembly item, I'd recommend checking out this article: Track the products you manufacture. It also includes details about checking your stock and pending builds.

If you need to see inventory on hand and what's needed for building assembly or work order, you can pull up the Inventory Stock Status by Item report to print the quantity on hand of your assembly item.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Choose Inventory.
  3. Select the Inventory Stock Status by Item report.
  4. Set the report date.
  5. Click the Print button.

Additionally, you can customize your inventory reports to focus on the details you needed the most. Check out this article to learn more about this: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop. It also provides details about setting preferences and scheduled reports.
