Split Transactions in PayPal Bank not working

Hi guys, 

 

I have PayPal Bank set up and it grabs all my transactions. A lot of these need to be split, for example, I get a lot of invoices with shipping charges that I want to split into two categories, parts & materials, and postage & delivery. 

 

When I go into the transaction and hit 'split transaction' next to category it will allow me to add the postage and delivery category and auto calculates the totals for this transaction.. I then hit apply and confirm and my transaction gets placed in the 'categorized' tab. 

 

However, if I go into the categorized tab and look for this transaction, every time, I find that it hasn't actually been split, so I'll have to manually go in and add the split categories once the main one has already been categorized. 

 

Does anyone have an idea about why this would happen?

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community and letting me know what's going on when trying to split these PayPal transactions. I want to make sure you're able to get this done in your QuickBooks Online account.

According to the "categorize and match online bank transactions" article, you're following the correct steps. When you locate the transaction in the Categorized column, does the Added or Matched field state, "Added to: Deposit: Split income..." or something similar regarding the split? If so, the transaction has successfully been divided. You may also want to check in the bank account register and the Payee Account description will show as "-Split-." 

If the issue persists, I recommend reaching out to a member of the QuickBooks Online Support Team. Agents have a variety of advanced tools, such as screen sharing, to take a closer look to determine what's causing the transactions to not split correctly. Here's how to get in touch with the team:

 

1. Click the Help button in the top right corner.
2. Select Contact Us.
3. Enter Support in the field and choose Let's talk.
4. From here you can select to receive a callback at a time that's convenient for you.

In my categorized section, when I view that transaction it says 'Added to: Expense: Parts & Materials'. 

 

That got me thinking, so I went ahead and tried again from the 'For Review' section, this time I swapped the categories. I put the 'postage & delivery' one first and 'parts & materials' on the second line. 

 

Lone behold, when I went to the categorized transactions, it now said 'Added to: Expense: Postage & Delivery'.

 

It seems like it's only going to the first category and not actually checking / splitting to the second line category.

As expected, the transaction should show as added to both of the categories chosen when it was split.

 

I recommend reaching out to the QuickBooks Online Support Team with the steps mentioned above. An agent will be able to take a more in depth look at this issue and get it resolved as quickly as possible for you.

Looks like it's just a issue with the PayPal account on QBO, agent said devs would have to look into it.

I've been online for so many hours, trying to solve this, Tech Support and it's always with Paypal
