The tutorial for recording daily sales needs more clarification. I can't figure out how to keep the cash, cards & checks from being added to the total daily sales income

Hello there, acworth459.

I'm here to provide further clarification about recording your daily sales in QuickBooks. This way, you'll be able to understand its concept in the system.

The system will let you set up the payment methods you want to accept for your customer payments. You can keep the cash, cards, and check payments from recording your total daily sales by making them inactive in your list through the Payment Methods section.

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select All Lists.
  3. Choose Payment Methods.
  4. Click the drop-down arrow under the Action column.
  5. Select Make inactive.
  6. Click Yes to confirm.

I've attached screenshots below for your reference.

Once done, you'll now ready to record your total daily sales without including the cash, cards, and check payments.

In addition, to make sure you've recorded the correct total amount of sales in a day, I'd recommend pulling up the Sales by Customer Summary report. Then, set the Report period to Today.

@acworth459

You can refer to this great article on how to record your daily sales in QBO. It will provide step-by-step instructions with examples. You can also check out the video tutorial.

Will this work even though I don't use Quickbooks to process the actual sales? I use a different POS for all of my sales transactions & do not create any invoices or customers in Quickbooks. I just want to be able to input the total income from the day's sales broken down by payment type - cash, cards, checks, etc. so that my bank accounts show the correct amounts. I don't know how to explain what I'm trying to say. I think Quickbooks is over my head and kickin my butt.  Perhaps I would fare better using a pencil with a BIG eraser, a case of paper, and all of my fingers & toes.

Hi there, @acworth459.

You'll want to manually enter those transactions in your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account. This way, QBO accurately record these transactions. You can also refer to the link provided by vpcontroller on how to record daily sales in your QBO account.

Also, since you're using a third-party application on recording your sales, you might want to look for an app that lets you import your sales data to QBO. You can go to the Apps menu in your QBO and look for an app from there.

I've also collected these resources that can guide you in navigating your QBO account:

YES, DEFINITELY.

You just create a daily sales receipt in QBO to match your POS sales.

That's all. Try it.

This was very helpful. Thank you!  I am one of those people who reads every word of instructions and then follows them to the tee, so when the QB tutorial didn't specifically say to enter the cash, check, card, etc. amounts as negative numbers, I didn't!
