Tracking commissions

Yesterday I asked a question about tracking sales by sales person in order to pay commission.  I understand the suggestion to set up locations and then assign a sales person as a location.  My problem with this is, I do most of the invoicing for all my employees.  So, I will have to REMEMBER each time I enter an invoice which sales person to give credit to for the sale.  I know there are going to be mistakes.  My old version of quick books the customer was assigned a sales person in customer details.  I did not have to remember with each invoice.

I'd like to share a solution for your concern, ann56.

You can set up a recurring invoice template for each customer and assign the sales person. This will automatically create invoices based on the schedule you added and save more of your time.

Here are the steps:

  1. Go to the Gear Recurring Transactions.
  2. Select New.
  3. Choose Invoice from the the Transaction Type drop-down menu and then click OK.
  4. Enter a Template name, and select Schedule from the Type drop-down.
  5. Add the interval details, product information, and sales person from the Location or Class drop-down list.
  6. Hit Save template once done.

I've got some sample screenshots for reference:

Please keep me posted if you have any additional questions about the recurring process or other concerns with QuickBooks. I'll be around to help you out again. Thanks.

@ann56

Consider having a sales commission app to help you.

Where do I get the sales commission app you are referring to?  The suggestion of recurring transaction does not seem to fit.  Customers do not order on a regular bases and each order is different.

I have read through the in the instructions for doing recurring transactions.  I will give it a try.  Our customers do not order on a set schedule and each order will have different items.  So, it doesn't seem like it is the right way to do it.

Greetings, @ann56.

You can visit our QuickBooks App Center and check for any supported third-party app that offers sales commission tracking. I can guide you on how to do it.

  1. Go to: Apps.intuit.com.
  2. From the Search field, enter "Sales Commission".
  3. Select an App card.
  4. On the Overview tab, you’ll find things you need to know about the app, the contact details, as well as the app's support information.

You can read through this article for more detailed information on which apps are supported by Intuit and how to get support when you need it: Apps that work with QuickBooks.

On the other hand, you can create an unscheduled recurring transaction template. You can use this every time your customer will make an order.

Here's how to use your unscheduled recurring template:

  1. Go to the Gear icon ⚙.
  2. Select Recurring Transactions.
  3. Locate the customer's recurring template.
  4. Under the Action column ▼, select Use to use the template as a starting point for a new transaction.

Fet back to us here if you have other questions about using QuickBooks to track your income. I'm always here to help.
