Tracking Inventory for Estimating and Job Costing Purchases

I run a small plumbing business

We only provide a service we don't sell any of our inventory

How would I set up my materials in Inventory to Track Quantity and Cost without a sales price

It also helps to have the cost in the inventory bundles to track costing

Tracking Inventory for Estimating and Job Costing Purchases

I have some helpful information to share with you about tracking your inventory items, @StonePlumbing.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), you can add service and non-inventory items for products and services that you buy or sell but don't keep track of as part of your inventory. Service items are used for any services that you provide to your customers, while non-inventory items include any products that you buy or sell, but don't need to track as inventory. Just make sure to set all the information needed on the Product/Service information page, especially the Expense account and Income account

Here's how:

  1. Go to Sales, then select Products & services.
  2. Click on New.
  3. Select the Product/Service type.
  4. Provide all the necessary information.
  5. When you're done, click on Save and CloseP&S.JPG

If you would like more information on setting up and tracking your inventory in QuickBooks Online, please take a look at this article: Set up and track your inventory in QuickBooks Online.

From here, you can track quantity and cost by creating a bill, expenses, or a check. The sales price will only take effect if those services are added to invoices and sales receipts.

To check your best sellers, what’s on hand, the cost of goods, and more, here's how you can use reports to see your sales and inventory status.

Let me know if you need further information about inventory tracking or anything else with your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account. I'm always here to assist. Have a great rest of the day!
