How do you code uploaded bills/receipts to products & services? The only option given is Account/Category.
My company uses the products & services for all customers. The only time we use Account/Category is if it is a company expense. (When I say bills/receipts I am talking about bills we receive from vendors and contractors.)
I would use the batch transactions to enter the bills. But doing it that way, you can't upload an attachment. I attach a copy of all receipts and bills we receive, so even though this might be a quicker way to enter a mass amount of invoices, it doesn't work for me.
Someone please help. Is there something I am overlooking?
Thanks for reaching out to us here today, @asellers03.
I'll share some insights about uploading receipts in QuickBooks Online (QBO). QBO has the ability to upload receipts and bills. This let's you save time tracking and recording your receipts and bills from vendors. You can upload them from your computer or mobile device, or even from your email account.
Here's how to do it:
See this guide for details: Upload your receipts and bills to QuickBooks Online.
Once you're ready, you can now categorize your downloaded transactions and reconcile your account.
Feel free to reply to this thread if you have follow-up questions or concerns with receipts or with your QuickBooks Online account. I'll be here to help. Take care and have a great day ahead.
Thank you for you response. I understand how to upload a bill. I need to be able to code the bill different. The red circled area on the screenshot only pulls up "Chart of Accounts" codes. I need it to pull up "Products & Services" codes. How do I code the bill or receipt with Products & Services items?
I appreciate you for getting back to this thread, @asellers03. Let me clarify things about coding bills in QuickBooks.
Under the Account/Category section, it will show the account that you set up when creating the bill or receipt. Aside from that, the section will only have the option to select the Chart of Accounts code.
You can review this article to see how accounts and categories work in creating the bill: Enter bills and record bill payments in QuickBooks Online.
Additionally, let me share this resource on how to upload your receipts and bills to QuickBooks Online.

Thank you @Rubielyn_J
When you manually enter bills/receipts, you can code them to a category or to an Item (Products & services codes), or both. If you can do this manually, then you should be able to do the same when uploading a bill / receipt. There has to be a way to do it. That was one of the reasons we just switched to QBO. We have employees out on job sites that need to upload receipts, but now I won't be able to have them do that since we can't code to Items (products & services).
Did you find a solution? We are in the same boat...still easier to upload but would be nice if we didn't have to manually put all the info to product/service and take off category.
No I found no solution. We just don't use that feature.
I still find it helpful to have the receipts uploaded (forwarded from email is our favorite). Then I just edit the expense to put the info in the item area and $0 out the category price. Not sure if you've tried that but the feature still is helpful to our construction business.

We NEED to be able to code Receipts and Bills that are Uploaded into the Banking>Receipts area to
ITEMS
not just Categories.
It's great to see that you're actively working to address the situation, @StuartFMcClain.
Having the ability to itemize transactions in the banking section would be helpful. Currently, this feature is unavailable. I recommend sending a feature request through the Feedback section within QuickBooks.
Here's how to send Feedback:
1. Select the Gear icon, then choose Feedback.
2. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
3. Select Next to Submit.

Did you ever find a solution to this? I know there are expense management sites that link to Quickbooks (e.g. Concur, Expensify), but wondering if they run into the same issue.
I appreciate you for reaching out about uploading bills or receipts, @CCC-RHL.
Currently, the option to link your imported bills and receipts to your item is unavailable. I understand how important this feature is to be available to save time tracking and recording them. While considering your preference, I recommend sending a feature request through the Feedback section within QuickBooks.
Here's how:
