Vendor Reports

Can I create a report that is a monthly summary of expenses by vendor with category breakout.

Ideally, the months of the year would go across columns and the vendor breakout of categories would go down the rows.

Hi there, @ashjoedwards

We can customize a Expenses by Vendor Summary report to show your expense transactions monthly. Then, use a Filter to show more details you want to see in a report.  Let me guide you how:

  1. Go to the Reports tab.
  2. On the Find report by name field, look for Expenses by Vendor Summary.
  3. Click the Customize button, then click on Filter to expand the options.
  4. Select the date under the Report Period., then choose Months in the Display columns by section.
  5. Once done, click Run report.

For future reference, you can also save the customization applied to the report to access it easily the next time. See this article for a more detailed guide: Memorize reports in QuickBooks Online

I'm always around to help you again if you need further assistance. Take care!

Vendor Reports

Hi,

Thank you for this however "Category" does not populate as an option to filter by. Do you have any other work arounds to split out two categories for the vendor monthly totals?

Vendor Reports

Thanks for coming back to us, @ashjoedwards.

QuickBooks is a powerful program that allows you to run reports that provide useful information. I'll be happy to guide you in the right direction with this.

Currently, there isn't a report which shows transactions by category. However, you can run the Transaction Detail by Account that shows transactions and total for each account in your chart of accounts. Here's how:

1. Go to the Reports menu.

2. On the search bar, type Transaction Detail by Account.

3. Click the Customize button at the top right corner.

4. Select the Filter drop-down to expand the options.

5. On the Transaction Type drop-down, select the transaction type you'd like to view.

6. In the Account drop-down, mark the accounts you'd like to view in the report.

7. Click Run report.

8. Once done, select the Report period drop-down and select This Quarter.

9. Hit Run report.

I've also added this link about customizing reports in QuickBooks Online: Customize reports. This way, you can filter the information do you want to show in the report window.

Let me know if you have any other concerns. I'm always glad to help.

Have a good one.
