View contractor's social security number in full

Hi there, @danceatyourwhym. I'd be glad to share insights about viewing your contractor's Social Security number (SSN) in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

If you're only seeing their SSN's last four digits on the Personal details section, then the option to show it all is unavailable under this page. However, I can provide another workaround to view its complete numbers. All you have to do is to prepare their 1099s and go to step three. Here's how:

  1. Go to Payroll and select Contractors.
  2. Click Prepare 1099s.
  3. Select Continue your 1099s.
  4. From the file 1099's page select the View 1099's I've already filed.

You can refer to the screenshot below for your visual reference.

From there, you can take note of their tax ID and continue with your task.

I've also included these resources for additional reference in managing your contractors in QuickBooks.

View contractor's social security number in full

Hi there, the instructions you provided work if one filed 1099s via QB before but I have not. So why would I not be able to see full SS number in the vendor details (especially since I a) entered it there originally and b) can see it eventually on the 1099 once I do file them)?  I can't even see the full number in the 1099 preview - just the last 4 digits.

Thank you

Allow me to join the conversation and assist with getting the vendor information you need, danceatyourwhym.

There's an alternative way to view a contractor's full SSN in QBO. You can open the Vendor Contact List report and customize it to add a Tax ID column. This report will display each contractor's complete SSN or tax ID number.

Let me walk you through the steps:

  1.   Go to the Reports menu and type in Vendor Contact List in the Search bar.
  2. Select the Vendor Contact List.
  3. Click Customize in the upper-right-hand corner and select Change columns.
  4. Check the box for Tax ID.
  5. Click Run report.

Let me also share a couple more resources for additional guidance when filing 1099s in QBO:

The Tax ID does not appear as an option in the Quickbooks Online Vendor Contact List.

You'll need to customize the report to include the Tax ID, hammer. Allow me to guide you through the process.

As of posting, the modern view report doesn't support the Tax ID column. You'll have to switch to the classic view and customize the report to include it.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Go to Reports and type the Vendor Contact List in the search field.
  2. Select the Switch to classic view button if you're still not using it.
  3. Click the Gear icon on the report page.
  4. Tick the Tax ID box.

If you don't have the Switch to classic view button, you'll have to export the report to Excel and manually add the Tax ID.

You can obtain the Tax ID by accessing the vendor's profile. Simply click on Edit, then scroll down to the Additional info section under Taxes.

Additionally, you can memorize your reports to save the customizations you've made.
