When my customers pay invoices through QBO, in their bank records it shows my old company. How can I change the company name that shows up in customer bank transactions?

I changed the name of my company a few years ago, and updated my account info to the new name. Everywhere I look in QBO, it shows the new name. I just learned that when my customers pay an invoice, it shows up as the old company name in their bank records. How do I change this?

Hi there, @emweiss.

I have the procedure to take to make sure your new company name will reflect on your customer’s bank records when paying invoices.

Since you have already updated your QuickBooks Online (QBO) information to the new one. You’ll also want to update your QuickBooks Payments business and account details to update what’s on your customer’s bank record.

The Doing Business As (DBA) is what your customer will see on their receipts. This also matches the name on your deposit bank account. Moreover, here is the information you can update on your QuickBooks Payments account:

  • Legal Business Name
  • Doing Business As (DBA)
  • Industry type
  • Ownership type
  • Tax ID
  • Website address

Here’s how you change them:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Payments account.
  2. Select Account, then Account Profile.
  3. In the Account Holder/Business Information, then tap the Edit icon.
  4. Alter your business information as you need to, and select Submit.

Furthermore, I added this article for your reference in updating business and account information for your account: Update business and account info for QuickBooks Payments.

Additionally, see how to utilize this article to determine when QuickBooks sends client payments into your bank account: Find out when QuickBooks Payments deposits customer payments.

If you have more concerns about account information or other queries about QuickBooks, please don't hesitate to add a reply.

Thank you for the response. Wow, I feel like I was sent back to 1995 with that website! Never knew that existed.

Anyway, I updated my company name and DBA under the business info, but it wouldn't let me change it for the bank account for deposits. Does that matter?

No, it won't matter if you can't change your bank account for deposits as long as it's still working, @emweiss.

It's funny to hear and great at the same time that you have updated your company name and DBA successfully with a retro user interface. Our Product Developer may have settled for this interface since it is simple and user-friendly. We're still glad that you've successfully updated your company name in Merchant Services Center.

On the other hand, you can't change it if you have ongoing customer transactions. Ensure that there are no pending transactions to update your bank account info for deposits. I suggest checking the Update your bank deposit account section for pointers: Update business and account info for QuickBooks Payments.

In addition, if you want to update how QuickBooks Online records the deposits and fees, feel free to bookmark this resource: Choose where to record payments and processing fees for QuickBooks Payments.
