I want you to have a seamless process when completing tasks in your QuickBooks Online account, sk-herefords.
As QuickBooks aims to provide a new invoicing layout experience that helps you land jobs and get paid faster, our product design team has made enhancements to ensure users have streamlined procedures when managing customer sales transactions.
Additionally, if you're currently using QBO Simple Start and Essentials, the ability to switch back to the old/classic layout preference is unavailable in your account. For Plus and Advanced, these options will no longer be applicable starting May 6, 2024.
For now, I can guide you with detailed steps on how you can modify and manage default invoice templates in the new/modern layout. To do this:

Hi sk-herefords,
Hope you’re doing great. I wanted to see how everything is going about the new/modern invoice experience you had the other day. Was it resolved? Do you need any additional help or clarification? If you do, just let me know. I’d be happy to help you at any time.
Looking forward to your reply. Have a pleasant day ahead!
This new experience is confusing hot garbage. We've lost the footer text option. The modern template doesn't show up in our list of templates. Waste of time for no benefit.
It also seems to be having issues displaying correctly. Service date is turned on but that column is empty when the invoice is populated. This new invoice lacks the customization options that previous ones have and it's unclear as to whether or not the markups are showing on the client facing side...that has been a glitch in the past and with this new version the preview option is still showing markups...which suggests clients will see those even though qbo says they won't.
Hello there, @bbarry, I'll provide some insights about your Service date and Product and service of your invoice in QuickBooks Online.
It appears that you're trying to create an invoice against a Billable expense charge. Since billable expense charge uses reference links when creating an invoice against it, it doesn't populate the Service Date and Product and service currently. You can check this article to see the available and unavailable features in the new experience: See what’s new with estimates and invoices in QuickBooks Online.
Regarding your Mark ups, Although the markups for the billable expense charge displays as a line item when you link it to an invoice, the markup will not show on your client's side only if you use Online Invoice or Plain text as his Online delivery for all his sales forms.
If you're using HTML you can follow these easy steps how to change it to online invoice or plain text.
Here's how:
I've added this article to learn how to manage your sales form: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.
If you have any further questions regarding the display preferences of your invoice in QuickBooks Online, please don't hesitate to reply back to me. I'm here to help you. Stay safe.
Thanks for the reply...although it doesn't even make sense. So will the service date show up or will it not? It is not clear by what you wrote. And in order for markups to not show I either have to go in and manually add markups (rather than using the supposed option) or I have to change to plain text? How is this an improvement?
I'm here to enlighten and add additional information regarding your question about service dates and markups when working with your invoices in QuickBooks Online (QBO). @bbarry.
Currently, there's an open investigation about the service date not automatically populating when attached to a billable expense when working with the new invoice layout. Rest assured that our product engineers are fully aware of this issue and are working on resolving this.
On the other hand, I suggest contacting our support team so they can add you to the list of affected users. Please follow these steps to contact them:
In the meantime, I recommend manually adding the service date to your Invoice page so it will show on your customer's end. Please follow the steps I'll provide below.
Furthermore, you can use the Online Invoice or Plain text as your Online delivery, so the markups won't show when you send an invoice to your customer. To change this, I'll show you how.
You can read this article to learn more about processing customer-based payments in QBO: Record invoice payments.
Feel free to get back to me by replying to this post if you have further questions about service dates and markups when working with your invoices. I'll be sure to help you anytime.
Agree. I just want to go back to desktop. This new product and the constant changing is unreal. Waste more time messing with this software then i do accomplishing anything positive.
I have no option for "Design" tab. Am I missing something?
Thank you for visiting the Community Space, Christine-K. I can help you show the Design tab option while customizing your invoices in QuickBooks Online.
To view the Design tab, let's create or reopen invoices from where you can click the Manage Gear icon.
However, if you cannot see the Design tab option, let's troubleshoot to see if the problem is within your browser. You can try logging in to your QBO account using a private browser that ignores websites from using cookies and doesn’t record any history and data. Use these shortcut keys on your keyboard to access incognito mode:
If this works, you can clear the browser's cache so the system can start fresh. If you get the same result, I recommend switching to a different supported browser.

Thank you, is it true we cannot go back to the original design as of May 6th?
Hi there, Christine. Yes, it's true. Starting May 6, 2024, all users will be transitioning to a new interface with a more modern design, permanently replacing the old layout.
That said, users will not have the option to switch back to the previous experience. For additional reference, I'm adding these informative articles to help manage your invoices efficiently in QuickBooks Online:

These changes are a nightmare!
Where do the downloads go when you click print and download on invoices? When I called for support, the person had no idea!
QB hired some people does not know the job to change the invoice.
Now, I can't see the product description while entering items. I can't have the price rule for different customers.
The interface its horrible.
Go back to the old format and fire the guy who designed the new invoice.
We don't want you to feel this way, PS84. I'm here to ensure you can access your downloaded invoice on your device.
When downloading an Invoice in QuickBooks Online (QBO) to your device, its default destination is in the Downloads folder. Please be reminded it's in a PDF file format.
We can access and review the file on your PC by following the steps below.
Additionally, if your customer pays an invoice, you can record it as invoice payment to clear off their balance. It ensures you'll have accurate sales data in QBO.
Please comment on this thread if you need additional assistance finding your downloaded invoices or any QuickBooks-related concerns. I'm always available to provide some help.
They are not being saved in my downloads. My IT senior technician has verified that they are not there. The other two people in my office also are not finding them in their download folders. Do you have any other ideas?
Thanks for providing additional information, PS84.
To assist you accurately, may I ask if you still remember the file name of your invoice? If so, you can enter the name manually on the Start menu.
Here's how:
Furthermore, you can also click the ellipsis︙icon on your browser and click Downloads. From there, look for the downloaded invoice.
However, it's best to contact our Customer Care Team again to help you look for the file if you're still unsuccessful in locating it.
Moving forward, I recommend saving the file to a folder that you can easily access in the future. Then, modify the file name so you can easily remember it. This way, you can search for it on the Start menu seamlessly.
You may also personalize your sales forms in QuickBooks. It helps manage what information will be available on your forms and add necessary details.
If you have more concerns with your downloaded file, kindly reply to this thread. I'm always here to lend a hand.
I tried every single file name I have created today, as well as the estimate and invoice numbers. None of them are coming up.
Where did the copy link to invoice option go?
Hello there, PS84 and Christine-K.
I appreciate that you brought this matter to our attention. Let's perform some steps that help resolve this concern regarding accessing the downloaded transaction and the copy link to the invoice option.
When downloading certain transactions in QuickBooks Online (QBO), it'll automatically go to your downloads by default. You can also see and choose which folder to allocate for the file for easier access. Since you've mentioned that you can't locate them, it's best to check another folder as well. If it's not in there, let's download your file again.
Here's how:
If the issue persists despite performing the suggested steps, I recommend contacting our support since they have the right tools to help identify the cause of this issue.
On the other hand, locating the copy link to the invoice option can be tricky sometimes. Let me walk you through where you can see this feature:
Furthermore, you can also personalize and add specific info to your sales forms: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

They do stuff all the time. They make distributive changes without any concern to the impact of their customers.
I am not happy at all. There were several things I could do in the old style that have vanished in the new. My job has become harder because I can no longer copy an invoice, I have to clear my cash ALL THE TIME losing information. Basically your upgrades have made my job harder not easier. Very disappointed. We have over 20 QuickBooks accounts and I'll be looking for something else.
