Why is one of my accounts showing as 'closed' when it's still an active, open account?

I opened a new account at Chase yesterday, and added it into QB self-employed. It's now showing my old account as 'Closed', even though it's definitely still open and active. Please help!

Why is one of my accounts showing as 'closed' when it's still an active, open account?

I'm here to provide some information about closed accounts in QuickBooks Self-Employed, @megmcduffee.

Before anything else, may I know your bank provider? It could be that your financial institution is conducting system maintenance causing the bank account to show a closed status. Otherwise, there are notifications on your bank’s website that need your attention.

To load the page and automatically update the bank data, we can click the Refresh all button. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon on the top menu.
  2. Choose Bank accounts.

  3. Click the Refresh all button.
  4. If changes are arriving from your bank's website, the system will prompt you to input your banking credentials.

If the issue persists, I suggest reconnecting your bank account to your QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE). This will refresh the connection between your bank's website and your online account. For detailed steps, please refer to this article: Connect bank and credit card accounts to QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Once the transactions are already downloaded, all you have to do is approve the way QuickBooks categorizes them. You may open this link to help you categorize entries in QBSE.

Keep in touch if you need a hand with downloading and categorizing your bank transactions or any QBSE related. I'm always here to help.

Both are Chase bank accounts.

I tried both refreshing, as well as re-connecting. When I tried to reconnect, it actually added a complete duplicate of the account (so I had to delete that).

My accounts are both Chase.

I tried re-freshing, as well as re-connecting the account. Refreshing didn't do anything, and re-connecting actually made a full duplicate (which I then had to delete).

Nothing seems to work yet. The new accounts are also greyed out.

Let's get this sorted out, @megmcduffee.

Thanks for sharing the outcome of the steps you've taken. Since you still experience the same issue, I'd suggest contacting our Phone support team to further verify the root cause why your bank show as closed. Please follow these steps to contact them:

  1. Click the Assistant menu from the top bar.
  2. To connect directly to an agent, type or say “Talk to a human".

  3. Then, choose your preferred support method: Message an agent or Call an agent.

Just a heads up, some options are only available at certain times. You can also visit our support hours page to ensure you'll be assisted immediately.

Additionally, QBSE is dependable with your bank. To confirm if they closed your bank, I'd recommend reaching out to your bank's support.

You'll want to make sure your transactions are accurately assigned to the correct line of your Schedule C, please visit our Categorize transactions hub.

Don't hesitate to post again here if you have any other QuickBooks-related issues. I'm just a clicks away to help you. Take care always.
